I installed the latest version with piaf with incrediblePBX in a virturalbox. But somehow the fail2ban get the wrong things to jail. The mail to the root showed asterisk, vsfftp, apache, and ssh are being jailed. How can I free them? Is there anything firewall I need open? I used gold edition, 1.7.5.5. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Huh? Fail2Ban jails IP addresses, not applications. It watches various apps for problems including the ones you have mentioned.

So what would be the cause for the problem? The mail to root just said : hi, the jail ASTERISK has been started successfully. No mention IP address. There must be somewhere asterisk try to do something and failed a few times before the jail starts. How can I trace where the issue is? I know sometimes the asterisk was shut down by some reasons I don't know. I have to manually start asterisk.

It means it's monitoring Asterisk, NOT that it put Asterisk in jail.

When fail2ban first starts up, it checks it's configuration file /etc/fail2ban/jail.conf to see what applications it should be looking for hacking attempts. It emails the root user that it is up and running and the applications that it is looking after.
