called my internet provider.
im on their lowest plan, so they said:
(1) fixed IP address is $55/month or
(2) go up a tier for $30/month and I get 1-5 fixed ip addresses included.

wasn't dyndns.org free ? (edit: it's dyndns.com).

What did my old orgasmatron, PIAF boxes use ?

(1) Cloudflare a good idea ?

There are a number of Dynamic DNS providers.
Some are free and others have a modest annual fee.

When it comes to DNS service, you get what you pay for. And our favorite remains dyndns.com. There are hundreds of domain names from which to choose, and there are update clients for most client platforms

I just bought a pbx domain mynamePBX.com, but they want a fixed IP address.

(4) this is for my 3CX - running as a virtual machine on my UNRAID.

ChangeIP works for me.

What ISP do you have? My cable IP address almost never changes unless I change the cable modem or service is out for a very long time (>24h), which has happened probably less than five times in more than a decade.

Spectrum and Bright Speed charge $15/month for a static IP.

Any kind of Dynamic DNS setting will eventually fail until the next scheduled sync time to the DNS service. How often that happens depends on your lease time frame with your ISP. Dynamic IP addresses all have some kind of lease time frame. Ask your provider what their frequency is.

@mbellot Depending on your ISP the lease time on an IP Address can be as short as 8hrs. I had a friend who lived in Switzerland and his IP Changed every 8 hours. When we were online flying in Flight Simulator it was not uncommon for him to drop off and have to rejoin. Rather a pain in the neck.

Very odd, since I thought DHCP tries to renew the active lease and will typically get it since the IP address hasn't been otherwise assigned.

Pretty sure my lease time is 24hrs and my IP address hasn't changed in over a year.

In recent years ISPs have been assigning the same public IP to a given legit (properly formed) IPv4 MAC address. The switch from random public IP assignment occurred mainly at the request of law enforcement in most countries.
It's still dynamically assigned and rather short lived but same public IP leased at renewal time.
Typically the only way to know that it's a dynamic IP is through reverse lookup and grep for DYN.

Again it depends on your ISP and how you are getting your IP Address. Mine for the current time is a FirstNet mobile internet device. It changes at least every 2 weeks or more often if it is off for a few days.
