Hi everyone,

I'm trying to install the worldwide weather app from nerdvittles (http://bestof.nerdvittles.com/applications/weather-world/), and in order to use it, I have to install Flite (http://nerdvittles.com/index.php?p=134).

The problem is that the instructions for installing flite seem to be a bit dated (I can tell by the fact that instructions are telling me to write show application flite instead of core show application flite). In any event, flite installation fails because the result of that command is your application(s) is (are) not registered. Needless to say, weather doesn't work. I followed the instructions to the "T" for both flite and weather.

To note, I am not using PIAF (or trixbox) due to the fact that centos 5.1 is very dated and doesn't include the LAN drivers for my computer (and installing them is needlessly difficult). I am using Ubuntu and I installed asterisk and freepbx using this script (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AsteriskScr...ew&target=installZaptelAsteriskFreePBX_1.2.sh). I user alien to install any RPM packages that nervittles suggests.

If someone can give me a hand with installing flite and weather, I would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Hi Ward,

Thanks for your response. Does PIAF come with flite preinstalled?

EDIT: Moot point. After a bit of googling, I found that centos 5.3 will not work on my hardware either (still too old). Explains why bleeding edge ubuntu works though. :) Any other advice?

Hey everyone,

For people having trouble installing flite on non-PIAF systems, this should help: http://asterisk-flite.sourceforge.net/. I only had to follow steps two and three. Make sure to restart asterisk ("amportal restart" or similar) before using flite. Good luck!
