Anyone here in the Ft. Myers/Naples Florida market by chance?

I have a client who is interested in a new phone system, but wants someone local to be able to call "when things break." Considering their current system runs on OS/2 and is poorly maintained, their apprehension is understandable.

If you're interested, PM me. There's also a couple of other potential leads down the road in that area.

I am a little far away on the treasure coast I am afraid.... Good old OS2 Gee I remember writing applications for it which are still in use in some banks in Canada to this day. Good to hear there is at least one system outside of Canada that is still running it. I actually loved to work with it!

I'm in West Palm Beach, so its at least a 1.5 hour drive. Think you probably want someone closer. Should be someone on the west coast or Ft. Lauderdale that would make a closer trip.

I used to play around with OS/2 but it's been too many moons. I know the banks loved it. Wells-Fargo used it, many ATMs used it. IIRC, both NCR & Diebold ATM machines used OS/2 at one time. Sad, I never saw one of those OS/2 machines kernel-panic'd. I've seen several blue-screened Windows-driven ATM machines in recent years.

Sadly, in this case the hardware's the issue. The OS/2 install, some 10+ years old now, is still fine. NEC's logic and programming leaves much to be desired but it's still running despite a lack of TLC. I don't know the exact age of the system but do know it was used when they installed it 10 years ago.

Like a typical legacy phone system, proprietary parts become difficult to find, the wiring closets become utter messes from various contractors & different contractor techs working in them and not bothering to label/clean up things, and of course they've outgrown it. We're constantly juggling extensions around the building trying to accommodate everyone. Add in the age of the system and I flat-out refuse to touch it.

I live in Broward (Ft.Laud/Hollywood) and work in Dade (Miami/Hialeah). Naples is about ~45min away from my house. If you're looking @ a map, I'm located near I-75 & I-595.

I know OS/2 very well, although it's been a while... there's quite a few voice processors running OS/2: Octel 100, Active Voice Repartee, AVT, etc. I will warn that it's a very finicky operating system and is quite particular. We were one of the few companies able to sell backup solutions for these boxes (via Tape/Network/CD-R), and I believe the only one left.

As it pertains to you, NEC owns Active Voice, and you're probably referring to NEAXmail or Repartee (same thing). If you're getting a kernel panic, then you're screwed. You could get a replacement chassis and reload, but you won't like the price.
