R.I.P. Fonica VoIP Service

Free outgoing toll-free gateways

When you attempt outgoing toll-free over enum (must include e164.org lookup) and the number is not found, the call is sent over a toll-free provider at no cost to you.

The following gateways have accepted outgoing toll-free without registration or cost. They are listed more or less in the order most recently tested as working. Please post if you find any that no longer work.

Hey Joe, I was on the phone yesterday with Qwest for an hour and a half and received the message "You have 60 seconds left before your call is terminated" or something to that effect.

Is there a time limit on this service?

Hi

I have imposed no limit on length of calls, apart from that imposed on you by how much credit you have. Can you confirm that you had enough credit for a longer call?

The system will warn you at 60 secs and at 30 secs before disconnecting, but disconnection should only take place when you are out of money.

Keep making those 90 minute calls, we need to buy Ward a new server ;-)

Free Outgoing calls to toll free numbers

It has been a while since i posted about calling toll free numbers. As mentioned by Uncle Ward, using ENUM works like a charm for calling toll free numbers, although I am having some issues when calling other numbers registered in e164.org through the ENUM trunk. Adding this ENUM trunk plus the service provided by Joe's company has been a great combination and addition to my PiaF server.

To follow with what cliff mentioned on his post about gateways accepting (passing through) toll free calls for free, I have been able to see that the following seem to be workign and responding properly:

Hopefully everyone lese in this forum can benefit from Joe's service and ENUM trunking as a complement.

Hi

I tested a few of those links you put in, and chose a couple of the better ones - purely subjectively - to some toll free numbers, so the PiaF service does now sport toll free calling - free of charge !!

I'd ask you to signup because you get to support the PiaF project, and hopefully help towards cost a new forum server.

Incidently, I also tested out our service with the new Faxing ability in PiaF. I sent a FAX via the USA server, from our offices in Spain, and received the call on our VoIP Madrid DID, and recieved the fax I sent, that is a round trip of about 7,000 miles.

Joe

Hello Joe,

That is excellent news:

the PiaF service does now sport toll free calling - free of charge !!

This means that I can, now, remove my ENUM trunk and still will be able to call toll free numbers in the US for free? You are making this too simple for all of us trying to learn something new when needed....I am already a loyal customer of your PiaF service, probably not the largest one, but making my contributions every so often. Keep up the excellent work. Incidentally, what is the price for US DID's? I have tried tolook for this information in the FONICATEC website, but no luck.

We can do DID, but we are not really set up for USA DID - Yet!, but should have a product in place for Christmas if all goes well.

Being a European company, our best prices are for UK and Spanish DID, but would expect to have a decent DID service in place for Christmas with a tier one provider.

Drop me an email with what you want, and I will check prices and availability for you.

I'm glad you like the service, and don't forget, if you get other people signed up on the standard service, we'll give you 15% of the revenue. We've just set up the reseller pages so you can track your customers.

Joe

Hey Joe,

I will wait for the US DID's to come after X-mas. I currently have 3 DID's (with different providers) at $3.99 a month for, supposedly, unlimited number of incoming minutes (2 channels maximum). The question about you providing DID's was based on the fact that, I think, I read somewhere that you will not limit the number of channels per DID, of course this will be more expensive than what I am paying, but it might make sense for what I might need in the future.

Regards,
markiper

Yes, it would be nice if you were to get US DIDs that are cheap too! I don't have many, but I rarely show connectivity problems with your server versus others! You think you will be able to port numbers over pretty cheap too?

Thanks for your kind words, Phone User - we have canadian DID at the moment - but our prices are not competitive until we get our tier one provider online for DID.

I'll keep you informed how we go.

Joe

Thanks to Joe, I was one of the "early adopters" of this service.

At present we mostly use the outgoing circuits for our foreign calls - the industry I am in is very multicultural and our staff are recruited from both Britain and many overseas nations, so our marketing staff often have to telephone Europe and SE Asia.

That said, they are set as a backup route for UK calls if all the BT circuits are engaged - this seemingly "backwards" practice is because BT actually offer fairly good rates for our level of usage, and at present there are links to another office using Featureline (Centrex).

And despite currently only having one broadband circuit for everything, the office staff haven't even noticed any difference in call quality whatsoever.

I do use a couple of other VOIP providers both at home and in the office but they have been prone to outages and are consumer rather than business level

However the PiAF/Fonicavoip service is definitely business class - once its set up its just worked and I've not had to bother Joe with support queries, and even with the plummeting pound against the euro rates are still competitive - I can wholly recommend this service...

Alex

Thanks for your kind words - they were unprompted and unexpected.

Joe

Hi Joe,
Any word on a tier 1 provider in the USA that provides DID's, and will you have the ability to port existing numbers?
Thanks,
TomSyr

Vitelity is good, but I believe Joe is working with a Tier 1 provider that will allow these types of services on his platform. Let's see if he responds to this as I would love to know the ETA of such a project. As I said Vitelity is okay, but my experience with the PIAF service is unmatched.

VoIP and PiaF

Yes- there are allot of VoIP providers, but with the commitment that Joe has shown, I would rather wait and see what his venture can offer. I'm looking specifically for business grade.

Hi

We are doing battle with our tier one provider for DID and termination, but as ever, the bigger the company, the greater the inertia.

They tell us that we can have service in early January.

Joe

I'll be watching would be happy to
pick up a vancouver DID and possibly replace my abbotsford one
