Dear all,
While Ward and Tom have been beavering away at Sushi, and the new 1.4 ISO, I’ve not been completely idle either.
We have now created a new service on the system for free calls between any Internet connected PBX in a Flash system (or indeed any asterisk box) for any telephone number in the world.
If you have been struggling with trunking 2 PBX systems together, or setting up Dundi, or indeed you are on dynamic IP addresses, and cannot do point to point trunking successfully, then this may be the answer.
How does it work:-
You ring 1 555 200 0001 from your PBX through our service. You will be prompted for your telephone number, let’s say its 1 310 362 7095, dial in the full 11 digits, in international format followed by the # key, the number will be read back to you, then you press 1 to confirm that is your number. You must put it in full international format.
20 seconds later, the system will call you back on the number you just entered in the previous step, and read out your telephone number, followed by a four digit pin. Make a note of the PIN, you will need it later. This confirms that the number belongs to you.
Don’t worry if you don’t catch it, you can go through the first process again, and it will call you back again. This process is to confirm that the number belongs to you and we charge you for this call to prevent fraud using the callback to a premium number.
Please note that the system does not deal with IVR menus, so during this process you will have to direct your inbound telephone number to your extension for the couple of minutes it takes, so you can answer the phone directly.
You then dial 1 555 200 0002, enter your telephone number you wanted to register, and then the associated PIN you heard during the callback.
If successful, you will then be told that the number is activated.
Now any time someone rings you through our service, the call will go via the internet all the way and be completely free of charge.
If your PBX is offline for any reason, then the call will automatically failover onto your landline, and call you as normal, and of course charge the caller for the call.
What numbers can I add:-
Any and Every number that is pointed into your PBX, Tollfree numbers, Numbers supplied by your telecoms provider which normally come in via landline, numbers you have purchased from other service providers. Put them all in, and when any one on our service calls you, they get a free call, and when you call one of their registered numbers, you get a free call.
You can add any number in the world, just enter it in full international format. I’ve not worked out how to do it between customers registered on our EU server, and customers registered on our USA server yet, but the service is identical on both.
What does it cost
Nothing, you just have to have some credit on your account to use the service
Do I need a fixed IP
No, because we know what IP you are on at all times by your registration, provided you have configured your Fonicavoip trunk properly as per these instructions, - http://www.fonicatec.com/piaf/v_iaxUSA.htm
Are there any changes to my line, number or supplier
None whatsoever, you just register your numbers and anytime someone calls them on our VoIP service, the call goes directly to you via VoIP with no carrier charges.
What happens if my broadband goes down
Nothing, the call just re-routes over the PSTN.
Do I need to open any ports on my firewall to receive incoming calls.
No not at all, that’s the magic of IAX. You don’t need to open any ports up on your firewall (apart from to let the traffic out) – this makes it more secure than SIP.
Do I have to change the config on my PBX
Possibly – say if your landline number is 1 310 362 7095, but your supplier is only delivering 310 362 7095, you will have to add an inbound route with a DID of 13103627095 – e.g. international format. Likewise if you have a T1 or an E1, and the provider is only delivering 7095, the last 4 digits, you will have to add a route for the complete number 13103627095. Apart from that, just make sure that the Fonicavoip trunk is configured exactly as per the instructions.
Isn't this the same as e164 and other free services like gizmo.
Yes, pretty much the same in function but not execution. There is no post dial delay, no messages saying its a free call, and it works on IAX not SIP, so no ports to open on your firewall. And if there is any transcoding to do, we do it, so you do not have to install extra codecs.
Is it secure
Yes, we can only send calls to you if your trunk is registered with us.
What if I don’t want the service any more
Log into your customer portal, and select DID, and set VoIP call = no. We will no longer route calls to your PBX via VoIP, we will just route them over the PSTN just like before.
As many of you know, I, with my business partner in Spain have created a VoIP service specifically designed for PBX in a Flash owners and Value Add Resellers, and we share the profits with the PiaF team in order help to support the project, not that there is much by way of profit so far, but we are working on it.
You can read all about it here, and hopefully sign up. http://pbxinaflash.com/community/threads/fonica-voip-service.2252/?t=2252
Only those who have verified accounts and have credit are eligible for this service.
[FONT="] Ward said he’d do a write up on NV if I created a free service, so I’m sure he will explain it better than I, but if you do have any questions, do not hesitate to ask.
