FYI Free edition, number of Trunks?

The re-invite for the free edition says,
"You will receive an email with your free license key details for 8 Simultaneous Calls (25 extensions) and Unlimited SIP Trunks, worth $350."

This is interesting. Previously, and as advertised on the 3cx website, the free edition only permits one trunk.
Unlimited SIP trunks makes it a reasonable alternative for our next upgrade, but wanted to clarify before we proceeded.

If I'm not mistaken, this is a one-year license to their commercial edition. The free edition has no expiration and is currently limited to one trunk.

But... stay tuned for some further developments coming perhaps later this week.

Thanks. I'm still confused by all of this and the most recent email from Octavius Gould. As I understand it:

(1) There is a free version of PIAF5 that is available to all, that (I think) is limited to one trunk.
I do not know the license terms. Annual? Perpetual?

(2) There is also a version with a free commercial license key for one year.
I do not know if it has trunk limitations. "If you are a Telecoms / IT reseller"
one can obtain "a free NFR ("Not for Resale?") license key."

(3) Mr. Gould's recent email offers a version with "a complimentary annual license key "
and "Unlimited SIP Trunks" (his bolding). That sounds like #2, above.

If you have the annual license key version what happens after the year? The PBX stops working because it fails a phone-home to the Mothership? The PBX is no longer supported (no updates, bug fixes, security patches)? I personally honor license terms, so I'd have to find something else to use after the year -- $350 is too expensive for my hobby application...

Very interested in the update on licensing. Have been reluctant, so far, to jump on board. Is the SBC part of the package?

HI, Sorry for all the confusion. The PBX edition is still limited to one trunk, and its perpetual. Its free, although a maintenance is required in subsequent years to get free SSL, push, DNS and more. Its minimal though.

The one year license is now free for all but limited to one year.

The NFR is free and perpetual for 3CX resellers.

We are reviewing this to make it clearer and more attractive, especially for the smaller installs.
