Not sure where to put this news so I am putting it in the open section of the forums.

http://www.google.com/googlevoice/sprint/

Soon you will be able to use you sprint cell number as your google voice number WITHOUT porting you phone number to google.

Wonder how this will play out for use with our PIAF systems. As a Sprint user myself, I am waiting to see how this pans out.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

In the fine print:

Standard Anytime Minutes, data, and text messaging rates apply to Google Voice services on Sprint phones.

So your free outbound calling that you get with Google Voice is not free if you use it from your Sprint phone. Airtime charges still apply.

Will it be a true data service (VoIP over the data network), or cellular voice?

Now that Google is partnering with a company that likes to make money from telephone calls, I wouldn't bet on free and open SIP access any time soon.

Same fine print applies to using Google Voice with any existing cell phone. This just saves you the step of using a separate Google Voice DID which may or may not be a good thing depending upon how you plan to use it.

One advantage of GV has always been the ability to disguise your actual cell phone number. This would take that away.

I wonder if this applies to all of Sprint's other businesses (Boost, Virgin, etc).
