hardware recommendation for small system?

Well, I spoke too soon. Unplugged everything and moved it down to the basement next to the rack of other stuff. Would not come online. Connected network kvm and saw that NIC was offline, but had been online very briefly. WTF? Okay, so I *do* need to run the piaf-extras and install the good driver :)

I have decided to take the plunge.....

..... I just placed an order for one of these jetway barebones, so I hope that everything goes OK from my side. I will post some more comments when I receive the unit and get it up and running. They seem to be a great system for less than $300....

I have 12 units that I am building for install.

Intel Atom 330
1GB memory
2.5" 120GB sata Hard Drive
8 GB usb flash
Sangoma B600
Morex 2766 case that supports 2 PCI cards

All for just under $800.

PBX in a Flash 1.4 with nic update and os upgrade to 5.3

Works great for almost everything.

I should have been more specific...

The system that I am building, which is for my home office, has:

- Jetway HBJC110C91-330, which includes the Intel Atom 330 motherboard.
- 160GB SATA (2.5") HDD (Hitachi)
- 2GB memory (Kingston)
- DVD/CD SATA Slim (Sony Optiarc)

All those components came up to be $290 + plus shipping when ordering from Newegg.com, so not a bad deal for replacing my old Everex gPC2. I already have an old Digium TDM400 card that I have had for the past 5 years and is still good enough to give me 2 FXO and 1 FXS ports. Eventually I will like to get a newer one with echo cancellation, but I use my PSTN mainly for fax transmission.

Got my package from New Egg today.

Which driver for the NIC should I be using? The CD that it came with has a few different ones.

When installing using PIAF, I use the option for other drivers... does it allow me to put in another CD? Or should I put it on a thumb drive?

that i can't say. with the above unit, one of the realtek drivers in the piaf-extras package was what was needed, so it just worked.

I didn't realize the Extras was extra stuff you could install. I thought it was an option to add extra stuff while you install. I'll give it a shot with the PIAF disk.

no that isn't necessary to use the CD

just type piaf-extras once you login. it was all copied over.

Starting to work with this new box and have a question about install.

I'm using a USB attached CD ROM. Boots up fine. I type in ksalt and enter and it doesn't work.

When I go through the manual method, I tell it to use the USB Mass Storage driver and it works.

Problem is, I'd really prefer to use the ksalt.cfg to do the install since I don't know what I'm doing regarding the manual method.

Is there a way to have the USB Mass Storage driver done before doing the main install?

Put all the NIC drivers on a flash drive and go from there.

I need to know how to get PIAF to install off of a USB-CDROM first. When I type ksat at the prompt, it takes off then ends up saying "Unable to download kickstart file. ...."

When I cancel and continue with the manual method, I can get it going using the USB Mass Storage Device Driver been then it goes into manual mode of installing CentOS.

if you're not using the pci slot, pop in an Intel or old 3Com nic. You will not regret it. Realtek..ugh.
sorry I meant to post to a different thread..damn small keyboard on this dell mini!
