Help Fund Custom-Contexts Module Upgrade

custom-contexts

It doesn't look like this issue has been addressed (from the doc):
a savy user can bypass the system. As soon as they transfer a call, the current dialplan puts them in a new context which is effectively from-internal taking away any restrictions.
Does anyone know if this is no longer a problem?

No. The dial tone after transfer issue is an Asterisk limitation that is not addressed by the Custom-Contexts module.

Our Goal of $4,000 Has Been Met!!!!

Many thanks to the individuals and resellers who have contributed to the bounty to get the Custom-Contexts module upgraded. Stay tuned for information on how things are proceeding.

Out of curiosity, does anyone here besides me use (outbound)routepermissions instead of custom-contexts?
I chose the former due to a note about the latter being vulnerable to gaming via call-forwarding, as well as some complaints about requiring much resetting of things via the GUI under certain circumstances.

Yes, I did, and I found it is much easier to use than Custom Contexts provided you don't need the additional functionality that Custom Contexts offers (and I didn't). I had used the first few versions and really hated it because of the priority settings that had to be changed every time you added a new outbound route. I don't know if those priority dropdowns have been removed in the newer versions (maybe kenn10 could speak to that) but I do know those were the single thing that caused me to stop using Custom Contexts.

From what I've read, the routepermissions module was written by Rob Thomas, who was at one time the lead developer on FreePBX, but at some point relinquished the reins of the project. I'm not sure if there is some animosity between Rob and the current development team (some things I've read sort of hint that there may be), so it's anyone's guess whether Rob will continue to update and maintain his module. I hope he does, but at the same time I find that FreePBX 2.5 does everything we need it to do, so we're in no hurry to upgrade (especially when I read about all the problems people have had after upgrading to newer versions).

Work Is Underway on the Custom-Contexts Module Upgrade

A programmer is currently working on the rewrite of the custom-contexts module. The new module will not be backwards compatible with FreePBX 2.7 and below. The existing v0.3.6 module will work for those versions of FreePBX.

I'm told to expect an alpha version of the rewrite for select people to begin testing (with FreePBX 2.8) as early as sometime next week. I'm happy to hear this since I can't do serious testing of 2.8 under load until I can utilize the new custom-contexts module.

So in short, work has begun on the upgrade and we should see preliminary results shortly. With luck, this module will be completed in time for an official release of FreePBX 2.8.

Many thanks to Philippe Lindheimer for coordinating a programmer to get this done!

To my knowledge that information is false and incorrect.

Hmmm, I do not agree with that statement. if there was any errors when upgrading from 2.5 to 2.6 or 2.7, those errors was solved promptly by the development team if reported.

Custom-Contexts for FreePBX 2.8 is ready for testing!

As FreePBX 2.8 approaches RC status, the revised Custom-Contexts module is also ready for testing.

I was able to upgrade my FreePBX 2.7 on Asterisk 1.6.2.7 to the new FreePBX 2.8 with absolutely no issues. I then accessed the extended repository and checked for updates to find the new Custom-Contexts 2.8 module. It also downloaded and updated with no issue.

I noticed a potential glitch in that on my custom contexts which had "Deny All Routes" checked but specific routes set to "Allow," the upgrade set all routes to "Deny." I simple reset the required routes to "Allow" and saved the context and all is well.

I can recommend FreePBX 2.8 and the new Custom-Contexts module for immediate beta testing!
