I have some old polycom 501s from fonality. I am trying to reset them to use with piaf. I did the hard reset (mac address), and the admin code works on boot up, but once the phone boots all the way, it is back to fonailitys settings. At first I thought it was pulling it in from a sever (DHCP 66) but, that doest make sense, because I had the phone boot up unplugged into the network and it still reverted back.

Thank you

It's probably connecting to Polycom's servers and they are redirecting it to Fonality. Snom phones all check their redirect server on boot. Have you tried preventing internet access to it?

Yes, I set it to a static ip and unplugged it from the wall

I had a problem like this with some used Fonality phones a few years ago - it seems to me that I ended up flashing a new generic version of all the firmware to get it to stop trying to phone home. I'm also remembering something about having to delete one of the firmware banks or images??? It was a one-time thing, and I just don't remember all of the details.

I used to have a SPIP501 (still do if anyone wants to have it for a donation to the PIAF community -- also have a 601 with a side car and a 301 as well)

these unis are now EOL and have been replaced by the 350,550, and 650 series. The 301,501 and 601 can only hadnle firmware files up to 3.17 (3.18 does BLFs properly but never could get that to work.

I have the files needed for the older series with a 501 specific cfg for your tftpboot directory which would locate the correct firmware and server files and should take care of your issue by doing this.

If you wish I can send you the files you would need. Just PM me an email address and I will send them to you.

You will need to set the server_317.cfg, sip_317.cfg and the phone's MAC address files to match your needs but I have them all from my old setup.

Good Luck.
