Hi,
I read somewhere to connect outside "extensions" cia IAX2 and not SIP...
I made a little test, and all is running fine...
Is there any problem in doing that?
It is easier than SIP (actually impossible for me...)

Thanks
G

If it's working, then No, I'd say you're fine.

I connect remote servers using IAX2 all the time if only because it's easier on the firewall config than SIP. Having said that, of course, there are secure ways to set up SIP to get the same level of control. Still, having just one port to manage instead of a few ports and a block of ports for RTP can be a real win. The typical method for setting these services up is SIP, because it isn't Asterisk specific, but if everything is Asterisk ready and can support IAX2, I don't see a problem with it.

Thanks
The difference is that with IAX2 extensions I cannot send messages, and may be something else...

That's probably true, but lots of SIP devices can't send messages either.

IAX2 is for Inter-Asterisk communication - it's really more of a trunk protocol, so there are lots of things that are just not part of the protocol.
