Hello

I have a setup with PIAF 1.4 with Voicemail users. Everything is working fine. Some users have requested that if they are on the phone that the calls should signal busy and not go to voicemail. And some people with PAs want the busy calls to go to their assistant. I can not find anything on the subject.

Is there anyone who could point me in the right direction?

All the best

Use call forward busy in the feature code admin - *90 then your extn and # then the extn no you want calls to go to and #.
Tell your users to put something like" I'm currently on a call, please leave a message" voicemail is activated straight away when busy.
Don't give some users VM or forward thier calls to reception.
Enable call waiting if you have to.
you can figure it out.:wink5:

Thanks for the quick reply.

The main thing I want to do is to stop the calls going to voicemail when the user is on the phone.

Is there a way to tell voicemail to not answer the call if it is coming from an engaged number?

Do you still want VM if not available or no answer? if so then call forwarding on busy is the best option. If you do not want any VM, then just diable VM.

You do need to decide - how to handle the call, when busy what do you want the system to do? If you do not want it to go to VM, then where should the call go? Once you answer that question, you will be able to get an answer on how.

It should do the following: (Lets forget about it going to a PA if the person is on the phone)

If the user does not answer the call --> Voicemail
If the user is on the phone --> Busy signal (and -not- voicemail)

This should be on a per user basis.

I assume you don't want the call that rings busy to be hung up on but rather continue ringing until the person called is available, correct?

Sounds like a queue of one would work in this situation. Just remember to fail over the callers to voicemail by setting time condition and group for after hours and for amount of time in the queue.

While this is a strange way of handling calls, I think you can create a Misc. Destination in FreePBX and point it to hangup. Then activate VMX locator for the extension and set the busy action to that extension.

I guess I am confused. Here in NA, a busy signal NEVER means to wait for the callee to answer, that is what the ring sound is for.

I should have typed,

"I assume you don't want the phone to present busy tone but to continue ringing until the person is available."
