dumb question. but does the incredible pbx load work with Asterisk 1.6? Or only 1.4? Thx, T.

Should work with both. Ward's article suggest using the "beta" 1.6 especially if you are using one of the Intel atom processors. The only significant difference in the "beta" is a newer version of CentOS, which offers better support for the atom processors and their support chips.

There's two different things here - Asterisk 1.6, and the PBXIAF 1.6.
I believe Ward recommends using Asterisk 1.4, but using the PBXIAF 1,6 CD, which has newer CentOS.

Confusing, it is. But Incredible PBX should work fine with Asterisk 1.4 and 1.6, and you can load either one using PIAF 1.6. :wink5:

Wow! I missed that distinction completely. Thanks Ward for the clarity (and all the other work you do) !

And Isaacl, thank you for pointing out what I missed.

Finally, thanks gizmosrcool for not being afraid to ask what you were afraid was a stupid question. It wasn't, and I learned something from it!

I think the numbering schemes we are using are very confusing, contribute to problems, inaccurate descriptions of problems and must be a hidden nightmare for new folks who don't know what they are running...

I would like to see us use a new numbering scheme for PIAF that can't possibly be confused with the Asterisk numbering scheme!

Funny you should mention that......

Yup new release will start at 1.7.5 as there will never be an asterisk 1.7.

The new schema is PIAF 1.7 = the current generation of PIAF. The minor version .5 = the centos version of 5.5

There will be 2 new ISO's PIAF 1.7.5-32 and PIAF 1.7.5-64

Each ISO will contain only the official centos rpm's and 2 of our installer rpm's. All of the other stuff will be loaded into the load files.

The new ISO will have the install options ks, ks-lvm, ks-net, ks-raid. the ks option is the old ksalt option and the ks-lvm is the old ks version.

Once centos is installed you will have a new menu where you will be able to choose your poison. Asterisk 1.4/zaptel, 1.4/dahdi, 1.6/dahdi or the latest beta. You will still have the option of exiting into the O/S to load drivers etc.

Once you choose your version it will be downloaded and installed.

Thus you only have to ask the following questions

1. 32 or 64 bit? Download the correct ISO

2. Which version of asterisk? as above.

3. Enjoy

Works so far in early alpha testing.

If Digium ever does come out with Asterisk 1.8 then our PIAF scheme will jump to 1.9.X and then the original Asterisk 1.4/zaptel will then become PIAF Classic....

<let the firestorm begin>

Yes it will still be backward compatible down to PIAF 1.2

Tom,

Why not use a numbering scheme similar to this:

1.7.55-32 or 1.7.55-64? That way if CentOS goes to 6.0 then there wouldn't be question of "...which is newer 1.7.6 or 1.7.0..."

darmock I am excited to hear that, as a user of OpenVZ/proxmox I am even more desperate to know if the release will include a 64-bit template?

I'd like to try the dahdi installs to see if my AEX800 Digium trunk card functions properly. Installs I tried with PIAF over the last few months did not work with the base install and yet with a base install of Elastix it did. I'd like to sort out where that issue lies and have you incorporate anything we might be missing config wise.
