Incrediblefax install issue

After installing incrediblefax and fax configuration, I am getting the following error:

ERROR: No Fax license detected. Fax-related dialplan will NOT be generated! This module has detected that Fax for Asterisk is installed without a license. At least one license is required (it is available for free) and must be installed.

My past experience with incrediblefax is that no additional licensing was required. Is this something new or have I done something wrong?

That is Fax For Asterisk - Separate from Avant and Hylafax.

I started this whole process by turning on the fax configuration module. It gave the license error. I turned it off and tried installing incrediblefax which had the errors I previously described. Solved those errors (I think) and turned fax configuration back on. Still had the license error. Installed the free digium license. Error message went away. Configured fax settings in an extension where my did lands. It doesn't pick up the fax. Perplexing.

Digium Fax For Asterisk and Incredible Fax are two completely different animals. Which are you trying to use here?
Are you using a dedicated DID for faxing or trying to do Fax Detection?

I would settle for anything that works, but I want to detect that a call is in incoming fax and process that fax. That's what I thought incredible fax did, or at least what it used to do. The only reason that I installed the digium license is that when I enabled the fax configuration module (as per the incredible pbx instructions) I got the error message about the missing license. What's the best way to do fax detection?

What version of PIAF are you using? This is not yet functional in the PIAF2 releases. If you are using the proper PIAF release then the next question is whether you have read and followed the Nerd Vittles article that explains how to install and use it. We recommend a dedicated Google Voice DID to exclusively handle faxing. In other words, you would have a dedicated fax phone number because the fax detection mechanism in FreePBX doesn't work reliably. This, too, is explained in the article.
