We have released the install-siren program

This program will install the digium provided siren7 and siren14 codecs onto your PBX in a Flash 2062X system. This will work for both asterisk 1.8 and 10.0 running under either 32 or 64 bit systems that utilized freepbx 2.9/2.10.... Odd results were happening with freepbx 2.8 so it is disabled.

This install program uses a processor testing paradigm which tests all of the processor specific files against the existing processor and installs the one that gives you the best performance. This test is performed for both siren7 and siren14 and the fastest type may be different for siren7 versus siren14. If the program cannot find a best match then the generic version is installed.

Per Digium there is no conf file to edit so once it is installed you just have to enable it in the proper area in freepbx.

We can provide NO SUPPORT of the siren codecs as the PIAF Dev Team's involvement was to create a simple install program to get people experimenting with it.

How do I get it?

1. update-programs
2. install-siren

or

2. pbx-menu and then choose install-siren.

Note there is a digium license you must agree with which is displayed during the install.

How does Siren14 compare to G722 in sound quality? The Polycom IP650 that I use seems to support only Siren14 - according to the spec it seems to be double the sample rate (32khz vs 16khz for G722) and bitrate 40-64kbps which is up to 50% more efficient than G722's rate of 80k. Seems like a nice codec!

NO idea! We only wrote the install program. Perhaps someone who is using it can answer. BTW there is a siren22 codec but not free as I understand it.

The Siren14 support is for the 32kHz 48kbps variety, though in Asterisk 1.8, it gets immediately downsampled to 16kHz, except for direct Siren14 to Siren14 calls, as Asterisk 1.8 doesn't support anything higher than that for internal mixing.

We have moved this to the regular install system. Should be available tomorrow sometime

1. update-programs
2. install-siren

available also from the pbx-menu. Once things have been distributed it will be removed from the beta folder.
