I'm new to PBX in a Flash, I have Asterisk install at my business.

After successfully download the ISO I started the installation process and its looks like it came to a successful termination, BUT, when I try to continue with the configuration process I did not see Free PBX icon on the web screen. I thought I saw some error messages on the screen during the build stage but I'm not sure. How do I proceed from here?

Thanks,

Eyal

Log into your server as root. Do you have a green prompt? If not, install again. Did you verify MD5 checksum? Did you try "linux mediacheck" on install CD?

Me too

I too had the exact same problem. I attempted a complete reinstall and had the exact same result. I did it a third time and watched carefully. This time I saw there was a download the system attempted to retrieve from the Internet that failed. Whichever site is holding this file is not functional as of this today (Saturday 12/8/07).

Unfortunately (of course) I did not note the exact file, but I believe it was related to PEAR. My time window to do the work was closing so I had to go back to the previous setup and did not have time to go back and find the log file.

I think downloading significant chunks of the system is a weakness in the deployment mechanism, for two reasons:
  • This morning the 23 MB PBX install script took over 40 minutes to download, presumably because of heavy traffic on the PBX in a Flash server. And a component failed to download at all. If we had a disaster and had to reinstall the system we would have been unable to restore the system in a timely fashion.
  • Secondly, I would prefer to have a full set of installation disks, again in the case of disaster recovery. I would want to be able to install the exact same software and restore a backup file. With the download mechanism it is not only possible but likely that future installations would have different file versions. Or that some point in the future Nerd Vittles was not around any longer.
Anyhow, I am confident the download will work next Saturday when I can try again.

Here is how to accomplish your goal

1. Download the pbx_load.tar.gz and install.sh file

2. Burn both of these files to a cd in a format that can be read by linux

3. Unplug the PIAF box from the network

4. Place the PIAF iso disk into the cd and reinstall the system.

5. Because the box is unplugged from the net it won't update

6. Copy the pbx_load.tar.gz and install.sh file to your (uninitialized) PIAF system

7. Mod the install.sh to point to where your pbx_load.tar.gz file exists on the local hard drive

8. Run install.sh

Works and I just tested it. Thus you can freeze PIAF at a particular time in the dev cycle.

We are going to continue using our methodology because it works in most cases 3-4 instances of the problems you are referring to in 20K or so downloads is pretty small.

As for backups why are you not doing a complete whole disk backup for disaster recovery instead of doing a complete reload?

This is the error I found in the log file:
FATAL: can not find freepbx_engine to start Asterisk
Generating '/etc/zaptel.conf'
Generating '/etc/asterisk/zapata-auto.conf'
mv: cannot stat `/etc/asterisk/zapata-auto.conf': No such file or directory
Notice: Configuration file is /etc/zaptel.conf
line 0: Unable to open master device '/dev/zap/ctl'

Any idea???

OF course you ran genzaptelconf right?

Tom

Hi Tom, I ran genzaptelconf now and got the same error as above. What does it mean? What about freeepbx_engine?

Was the download successful or not? Watch the screen. If it was and you're getting these errors, chances are the clock on your server is not set correctly. CentOS 5 will not compile Asterisk properly if the dates of the files to be compiled are in the future. I, too, learned this the hard way.

The time looks fine, what about this error:

How do i reinstall pbx without starting all over again with centos?

Hi

This looks like installing PEAR DB failed.

Try this - pear install DB then if that is sucessful, cd /usr/src/freepbx then type asterisk then ./install_amp

If it fails, either something is wrong with your DNS, or the PEAR site is down.

So the alternative is to install via yum

yum install php-pear-DB

Then run the commands above - if this continues to be big problem then we may change the methodology here. I've had the problem once where the DNS refused to resolve the name only for pear-DB install.
