Hi All,

This is my first post on this site. What lead me to this solution was to eliminate my home phone bill or cut it down dramatically and I love taking on projects that are way above my head.

I friend of mine forwarded me this link:

http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how-tos/how_build_your_own_home_phone_server

I got everything setup but when I go to setup the account with X-Lite 4 and test it says:

'Account failed to enable
Account: Account 1 could not be enabled.
Problem at server, error 403. Try again later.'

This is on my mbp OSX 10.6.7 but I'm also getting the same message from my Windows laptop with XP. Both firewalls are turned off on the mbp and the Windows laptop. I turned off the firewall on my Linksys router as well and I have to wait 3-5 business days to get a new gateway (modem/router) from Comcast so that I can log into that and turn that firewall off as well. That is the only firewall that is on in this entire setup. I did try testing from the laptop with exceptions in the firewall for X-Lite and for port 5060 as it shows in the 'FreePBX' server web page.

The message I'm getting when setting up the account info on the Windows laptop is:

'Account failed to enable.
Account: Account 1 could not be enabled.
Unknown error. Contact your administrator.'

Please help.. I have come this far and I have everything else in place. I'm also able to access the Asterisk server and I have all the user names and passwords in place and working. I feel like I'm missing something simple here that's preventing me from moving forward.

Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.

Welcome!
In FreePBX in the extension's page, what are the permit and deny statements? Do they match the IP Address where you are trying to register from? Can you register from inside the network instead of outside?

Thank you for your reply Ross! The permit and deny standards are both '0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0'. I'm not sure what you mean when you say 'register'.

I'm sorry, I'm a big time newb when it comes to this stuff but I have a background in IT and am learning as I go. Do I need to put the IP of my Asterisk server in either of these fields?

Those settings in the fields are fine. That is the equivalent of unrestricted registering. Registering is the how the phone (in your case XLite) tells the server where it is and what account it would like to use.

What kind of computer are you running XLite on? Any firewalls between the PBX and the computer? Are you on the same network as the PBX or outside of it?

I tried shutting every firewall down but the gateway I have from Comcast was having issues and they couldn't get me access to it so they're sending me a new one that should arrive in a couple days. I'm going to shut every firewall I have down and see how that goes. I am on the same network as the PBX. I'm running the PBX on an Optiplex GX620 that has just the PIAF/Asterisk install running on it.

What do you set as the server IP in XLite? Can you post a sanitized (no secrets) screenshot of your XLite configuration?
