I have a new asterisk PIAF box that I get the message "It is not necessary to dial a 1 or a 0 when calling this number" It's a local number 770-xxx-xxx and my Zap trunk dialplan looks like:

770NXXNXXX
1+NXXNXXXXXX

Dialing out to my cell phone 585-xxx-xxxx works fine, any ideas? Thanks.

Doesn't the "1+" cause a 1 to be added if not dialed by the user? Maybe you should be using "1|" which will strip it if its included?

Yeah, I tried putting:

1|770NXXXXXX
1+NXXNXXXXXX

so that it would supposedly match the first plan if it was 770 and it would make sure there's no 1 in there. Watching the cli as I dialed though, it would match both and end up with a 1770xxxxxxx call being placed on the PRI. I also tried switching the two:

1+NXXNXXXXXX
1|770NXXXXX

and that didn't help.

Right now I just don't have anything and folks have to dial a 1 if they want long distance, but I'd really like to get it to work. Thanks.

There is interaction between the outbound route dial plan and the trunk dial plan that I'm not always clear on. It seems that in one you can add digits but in the other you can only strip.

But maybe someone else with more frequent dial plan experience can comment. Mine are working and I haven't touched them for months.

There was a post within the past couple of months about this topic. I'll try to see if I can find it.

Are you dialing a 9 to get an outside line first?
The 1+ says that if you call NXXNXXXXXX
but I would have thought that the 770NXXNXXX
would take preference. Is the number that you are dialing higher than 2 in the first and fourth digit after the 770?

Hey all, thanks for all the replies. I ended up doing the "Lookup numbers for local trunk (10-digit dial) on my zap trunk and that put a lot of lines for local numbers then at the end added the 1+NXXNXXXXXX entry and that seems to work for every local and long distance number we've tried till this point. I'm not sure why this is required in this market as we've used the same blanket dialplan on our PRI trunks for three other markets. It may be something specific to how this provider likes their numbers. Anyway, I think we're up and running, thanks again for your ideas and help.
