We have an IVR that's active when the office is closed and one option is for an emergency contact. I've used a misc destination for that, which has worked just fine. But I want to be able to change the destination from an endpoint.

I've thought about using call flow control, which would work to switch between two specific emergency contacts, but there have been times when it's been three or four different numbers we've been switching.

Is there an easy way to do this that I haven't thought of?

something like after-hours tech support?
they dial in... hit the emergency button... then it calls whoever is on duty(instead of everyone who MIGHT be on duty)?

couldn't you do cascading Call-Flow? (not sure it's the best solution)... but something like the following logic.
Call Flow -
After Hours Emergency 1(AHE1)
If Dave on Duty(blf off) --> send to Dave
If Dave off Duty(blf on) --> send to AHE2
AHE2
If Jim on Duty(blf off) --> send to Jim
If Jim off Duty(blf on) --> send to AHE3
AHE3...
...
...
That's the easiest I know of... but I'm far from GURU status ;) more like.. non-noob but still very wet behind the ears.

I would do a nonexistent extension (virtual) and do call forward always. You can change the number in Ari and I think over voice mail too.

I have tried doing that. It does not call the forwarded number. (Asterisk 11 and freepbx 2.11) The queue instantly hangs up on the virtual extension.

Try putting a # after the number.

I could have sworn, it did not work. Tried again, and this time it worked. BTW, if you put # in the ari and update, it remove the #).
How would you direct the queue to VM with follow me settings, urgent ->1-> external number
OR
Non urgent -> wait -> vm -> email with attachment.
