Election Protection: Deploying Lenny to Block Robocalls

@wardmundy not sure what's unglued, but the symbolic link to the sound files does not work. I ended up removing the symbolic link and creating a lenny directory in /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/en/ and then copying the sound files to the new directory. Then had to chown and chmod the sound files. Now it works.

I dunno, that's not the mental image that I conjure up when I think of Lenny. I think more of a kindly but addled grandpa from Maine.

Maybe:

How do you install Lenny? Can it be done on an older Freepbx 12 / Asterisk 13 ?

Edit:
My bad! I didn't see Ward's link

Ditto @kenn10, mine didn't work after initial install, but followed your hint and now it plays....

Looks like a read problem with the symlink, watching the log while it was "playing" the Lenny files it just played them 1 after another...

And, although I have "Enable Recording" checked, it records nothing. At least, there is no link in the CDR to a recording.

@kenn10: Took a shortcut for ease of reading, but I think the commands were backwards. I've updated the article. Thanks.

Finally! After running Lenny for so many years, it finally hooked a caller. Kept the idiot on the line for almost 8 minutes. LoL He finally figured it out and transferred Lenny to "screaming monkeys".

Post the audio - I love listening to these. So the guy had his own Lenny for annoying people - screaming monkeys? LOL - now that's funny.

Edited out the first 29 seconds, which is my IVR to stop telemarketer calls, which when there is no response, off to Lenny they go. Also had to convert to mp3 to upload here. I have not listened end to end, just the start and end to see how it finished.

I love it, the only problem is that you don't have the part with the geese walking through his house - that would have been great since he is obviously such an animal lover. Thanks for the entertainment :)

that was great - im dying :lurk5:

Is there a sip uri lenny currently active somewhere on the cloud where we can send those callers?

Thanks. Just tried. Ringing but not answering. Possible that it was dicontinued?

How did you set it up? I've got mine setup, and its setup on incrediblePBX the same way:

Add a custom extension - Ward uses extension 53669 (Lenny)
Under Advanced Dial: SIP/[email protected]

Then simply send people to 53669 and it should work.

I created an extension (as custom extension) and filled into the dial field (which supports SIP URI strings according the help balloon) the URI that you mentioned (SIP/[email protected]). I assigned it the extension number 53669.
When I dial 53669 it rings for a while then disconnects. CDR shows the dial information which seems to be correct with the full sip uri.

Edit: I also checked to see if i can ping sip2sip.info, that worked fine. I also put in a caller id number just in case if it was needed - same result: keeps ringing and disconnects after like 20 seconds.

Edit2: Checked the firewall to ensure that all traffic in and out to sip2sip.info was allowed; it was.
Finally I tried to direct dial (223)343-5945 hoping that it was a direct dial phone number, but apparently it is not as I got dialing error messages.
Can you reach Lenny by direct dialing?

Just tested and it worked for me. It's a SIP URI only. The other option is to just set up your own Lenny operation from the link in the original post.
