I want to add PiaF as home, but the way I am going, I will have way too many servers so I am thinking of using VMWare and virtualising everything into a single PC.

One challenge I have come up with is the use of Piaf with hardware. because this is a residential property, I still require the use of standard home phones (cheap phones in the sheds etc, and the gate intercom has a phone interface).

I was originally looking at the Sangoma cards, but I am unsure if I can fit them in the server and if a VMWare appliance can use them.

To resolve this, I thought that maybe a networked version of the cards would be suitable, but I have not been able to find any yet. I know Linksys do some, but from what I have seen they are single connections only. i am looking for something that is more configurable like the sangoma cards.

Anyone got any clues for me.

Thanks

Mick

SIP/FXO gateway's and ATA's are the way to go if you want to take this path.

However, the recommendation would be to put the PBX on dedicated hardware with internal cards to connect the the PSTN, and decent SIP phones, otherwise the results tend to be less than satisfactory.

Is that still true, I didn't think running it in a vm was a issue any more ....
