TIPS Looking to retire Trixbox. Need some help, I am not a voip guy

Hi guys,

To preface things: I'm a lone admin in a smallish company. < 100 users. I inherited this network frm the previous guy so I did not set up our what is being used now. We have our own trixbox 'box' (Litterally a workstation chassis) with a sangoma card that interfaces with a PRI from a telco. (http://www.sangoma.com/products/a200-2-24-port-expandable-analog-voice-board/), and then Soundpoint Sip phones to users with extensions.

I want to get rid of Trixbox, and erase it from memory. I've created a test setup with PBXIAF and got it successfully working with a few phones, but that was without the PRI.

I'd like to make a brand new box, and have a similar setup to what it is now, only replace trix with PBXIAF. I'm not sure what my budget for this would be, but if we keep it under 2000 CAD, what sort of hardware is most optimal for the installation, and should I stick with Sangoma?

Unfortunately, I'll need to schedule a maintenance window to play with the PRI side of things, because people need their phones.

Any help/advice would be awesome. It'll be a great learning experience

The acronyms are still a mystery to me. DAHDI? TDM?

Is there some kind of book or document out there that I can read and learn about all this stuff?

I could come in over a weekend and pull the card out and stick it in whatever box will be it's replacement. I'll need to re-create my test setup, I had to kill it because the tower was needed for something else =)

My big worry is that I don't want to break things that I don't understand - If something goes wrong with trix after I pull the card out, or something else happens, I'm in the dark as far as troubleshooting goes.

I have heard of ZAP and ZAPTEL, it's what we have set up on Trix. Don't ask me how to configure or set it up though!

If DAHDI is something new, does anything need to change betweeen the PRI provider and me? Or is the PRI irrelevant in this case, and it's just the card that functions differently?

I might need to start shopping around then.

What I wouldn't give to just have a guy come in, look at the wires in the server room and tell me 'you have X, you need Y, here is book Z on how to do it' That would be a godsend.

If that is not an option, it may not be too late to get a huge discount on a new Sangoma card.

Unfortunately, it is too late for that deal. I spoke with e4 last week and was told so.

Montreal is a bit far away for me; I guess if you want you can fly me out for a day and we can do it; I usually don't do much pure VOIP consulting but no harm in it I suppose. I'd think there'd be someone local you could use in Montreal though which would be cheaper - check with Sangoma and see if they have a dealer that offers services ????
