So Im getting a Pi 3 to replace my Pi 2 system. Would it be safe to restore a backup tarball from the Pi 2 to the Pi 3?

Meaning:
- I burn the Pi 3 image to an SD card
- Boot up and do initial config
- scp the backup tarball from my computer to the new Pi
- Run incredible restore

Is that safe or would you recommend I do the good old copy/paste method (have both servers running and make their configs identical)

Any feedback would be great, especially if @wardmundy comments

Make a backup first. Then, on the Pi 2:
Code:
apt-get update
apt-get dist-upgrade

Then just remove the microSD card from your Pi 2 and put it in the Pi 3. All should be well.

you don't say which image you have on pi2? so after backing-up; just using the microSDHC (or SDXC) from pi2 would be safest.

Not sure ward about dist-upgrade as there were modified PHP5 conf files in FreePBX and lots of other updates to Jessie which might break something?

If you expect overclocking? Note that using the Overclock setting in
Code:
 raspi-config
on a Pi 3 returns this message:

This Raspberry Pi cannot be overclocked

@ostridge We built the latest RasPi image for Incredible PBX using dist-upgrade (without replacing conf files when prompted) so... I'll let you know if things start breaking. :death:

Understand. I was just observing that as part of the dist-upgrade procedure, the user will be prompted whether to keep their existing PHP settings. Because of what you noted about FreePBX, the correct answer is YES.

That version is more than a year old. Much has changed on both the Incredible PBX and Raspberry Pi fronts during the past 12 months. I'd install the new release and then cut-and-paste to be safe.
