hello I removedthe r from my dial command and music is not playing when a caller presses 2 on my ivr they still get the ringing sound how do I have piaf play moh instead of the ring sound that the caller hears? also I seem to remeber there was a gui config editor and one other gui tool how ever I can't seem to find it where is it located at in the piaf? thanks Hank

ke7ief,

Try adding a lower-case 'm' in your Asterisk dial command options to get music to play instead of ringing.

FYI, I still get ring-back instead of music from the carrier once the call is in progress.

However, it does work as it should on internal extensions.

I'm not sure about the GUI config editor or tool that you referenced above.

Hello so there is no way to have the caller hear music while my phone is ringing? this used to be a feature a while back has this been removed? if so why? am curious.

Set up a Ring Group with your extension to be called. In the Ring Group, change "Play Music On Hold?" from Ring to a music on hold class.

In the IVR for the desired option, select the Ring Group.

The caller will hear MOH while your phone is ringing.

I should clarify what I said earlier was with regards to making an outbound call to the PSTN.

The method ronw describes works great, too.

Hello currently I have the ivr to play a anouncement before ringing if I set up the ring group how do I still have the anouncement play? also what ring group should I choose? I want to still have my anouncements in tact when some one presses 2 I have it say transfering to Hank, then it rings what I want is for it to give this anouncement then go to moh instead of ringing. I am unsure how to get it to do what I am wanting. Hank

also what ring group should I choose? I want to still have my anouncements in tact when some one presses 2

When you add a ring group, a default will auto populate in Ring-Group Number. For PIAF Purple, the next ring group will be 778 unless you have already created additional ring groups. It does not matter what number you use as long as it does not create a conflict with your current dial plan. Next replace your extension number in your custom destination code with the ring group number. So now the announcement will play, then music on hold will play while your phone is ringing.

Or depending on how you have the custom destination setup, randy7376's method may be simpliar.

Hello thanks for the help I got it set up the only thing I am running in to is on random play some times moh plays other time there is silence. 2 questions 1. is there any cairiters that permits the moh from working? eg - _ etc? 2. when I change the volume to 125 percent and apply the changes it defaults back to 100 percent. how can I have it stay where I put it? thanks Hank

You may need to check the encoding and format on your music-on-hold files.

Are they WAV or MP3? If they're MP3, how are they encoded?

If they are encoded in such a way that can't be handled by Asterisk, the result may be silence.

Hello some are 320 kbps some are 128 kbps and others are 256kbps what encoding does the mp3s need to be in? I can reincode them if need be. thanks

I'm using 192kbps MP3s that seem to work well for what I do. The 320kbps and 256kbps may be too high a bit-rate.

Maybe someone else can confirm.

16-bit 8000Hz mono seems to be what's recommended. Unless you're playing multiple streams at once, it shouldn't be a problem. If I remember correctly, you're using this at home.

Anyway, I just used these files off a disc I had made for the car CD player and they worked.

you are correct I am using this at home am also running my business off the thing to my home based business.
have you ever gotten streaming shoutcast feeds to work? I know some have gotten it to work and some haven't am curious what your success has been? will reincode the mp3s to 192 kbps thanks <smiles>

I've never tried the streaming Shoutcast or any kind of streaming feeds into Asterisk.

Maybe if I get bored one day... :)

Hello a update. I re encoded the mp3s to 192 kbps and am still running in to it working some times and other times there are silence. any other things I can try? also one other thing I am observing is when ever at the begenning of each call the moh starts the song over from the begenning. can I have it not do that? if so how? Hank
