More FreePBX 2.8 Misery

My impression is that the blog is a childish rant. He had trouble installing PiaF and Gizmo 5 integration - and he is not sure if it is an installation problem or not.

I find that there is little subsistence in this posting. It is easy to whine and complain but give me hard facts that say FreePBX 2.8 doesn't work under these conditions then inform the developers in a timely manner or come up with a solution.

What burns my butt is that FreePBX is free - what do you expect? If he is so upset then he should put his money where his mouth is and pay to get it fixed.

There seems to be a lot of bad press about FreePBX 2.8 and I would like to see a list of exactly what is wrong and then we can do something positive about it. That happened when FreePX broke the custom extension module and a the new custom extension module was written to address it.

Just because 2.8 is out and asterisk 1.8, that doesn't mean you have to use them. I think that is the beauty of PIAF, you get the choice.

Funny how people rant about this stuff, but never put their money where their mouth is. This is why I love open source software, if you want it that bad, you can pay for it. If there is some feature I need that bad, money can get it for me.

Nothing we haven't seen in rants on other forums as well. The change in the handling of dial patters on the outbound routes raised more ire than anything I've seen.

Just like I go off on the Asterisk developers over the lack of shared call appearances (please see my new thread and all the front-end work that is already done), we all calm down and move on.

I view it as a rant and little more.

His suggestion to use FreeSwitch is rather amusing. FreeSwitch appears to be a great up and coming product, the performance increases are great but it is still in its infancy and doesn't have 1/10 the support and functionality that Asterisk/FreePBX currently has.

I posted the original Gizmo5 threads referenced in the article. I understand that FreePBX is in it's basic form a GUI interface for Asterisk so when you have major revisions to Asterisk 1.4, 1.6 & now 1.8, you are going to have some changes in FreePBX as well...stuff happens and code has to be optimized.

The Gizmo5 module in question could probably be rebuilt to work, however adding the trunk and routes can be done manually as well....and with Gizmo5 it is probably not worth the hassle to update the deprecated and removed modules to work with FreePBX 2.8.... I would much rather have the focus on adding adding multiple Gtalk trunks to Asterisk 1.8.

Hmmm, that is a lot of words....

I have (tried) to read the blog, but I could not believe that so many words could be typed without making sense.

One thing that I reacted to was this:
However, back when I used to watch the ticket system more closely, I noticed that certain people — actually a certain person, whom I will not name here other than to say it wasn’t you — seemed far too willing to close what I thought were very valid tickets.
That got me thinking a bit, this person that write the blog, has he some kind of grudge against FreePBX? Was he referring to me?
Hmm, I do recognize the way to write and to use A LOT OF WORDS from a former member of FreePBX forums and here. He was wise as an old Owl, could he be the same as the blogger?
That would explain a lot of things.
My two cents.

Not always true, but...

There's usually a reason someone conceals their identity. :batmanb:
