I have already virtualized PIAF 1.7.5.6 simply by booting to the ISO on a new VM on my ESXI server. Now I see here that there is a custom instruction and a special .vmx file I should use. If PIAF 1.7.5.6 installed fine should I be concerned that I didnt follow the steps in that link?

If you are installing on ESXi, you would not be able to use that image. I installed most every PIAF Flavor on my ESXi server without anything special like preloaded images. I don't think ESXi will take VMXs. The VMX would just have everything preloaded for you. Nothing else special.
