Thank you @ostridge. I noticed that the group here was talking about that admin guide (as well as maybe replacing the firmware) in an earlier thread started by Ward a few weeks back.
I'm not sure I understand whether a firmware upgrade would be a nicety or a requirement at this stage, but we'll see.
As I was looking around, I noticed that there was also a site offering alternative firmware(s) - understand hacked stuff. Again I am not sure I know of any benefits, yet!
But surely it will be very entertaining once I get it in my lab
BTW, if anyone is interested in seeing the guts of the beast the certification submission has nice photos. There are also some detailed product pictures. And the quick "User Manual" filed with FCC.

So long as you use the OBiTALK web interface, these phones work perfectly out of the box with Google Voice and SIP trunks.

If you remove your phone from the Obitalk dashboard, you will find it wipes your config.

I have 12 of these phones love them. All tied to Incredible PBX 2020 Thanks Ward! I just orded another for a remote phone. I am going to try to set up open VPN on it. if not will have a spare.
I just wish I could get the phone to display my photos that are on my network NAS in a folder as a screen saver when its idle.

Maybe you can do it using the URL based slide show screen saver (ScreenSaverPictureURL).

Ah @Halea your clearly a quick reader, I only got as far as page 19 where it aludes to loading media via usb.

in the 'internal folder' /background/

I think that requires "
(A custom logo.raw) can only be uploaded into the phone using
the customization data package upload method."

Unless you risk unlocking ssh using third-party firmware

I don' blame her she probably realises it may take a few nights getting your head around the config.

I got the phone to display my pictures. No luck with URL bit I was able to put them on a usb stick and copy them to the background folder but needed to change to .jpeg. I will keep workin on The URL way not giving up on it. Oh one other neat thing I did was pair my apple phone then suck in my google contacts into the 2182 I have over 400 contacts it was a little strange had to run it twice then it worked. that all for now Thanks

Just received mine earlier today. Actually USPS delivered it 5mn before noon.
Skipped lunch, worked through ObiTalk portal and landed 4 GV + 2 PBX extensions in less than an hour not withstanding the 10mn I spent looking for the WiFi AP passcode of my office.
Probably the younger and smarter folks could set this thing up even faster.

Then I spent my whole afternoon talking on it. Sound quality is good. The ergonomics are OK. I kinda miss the good old plunger (well you know what I mean the big bulky on-hook switch to disconnect the line).
But hey! I guess that's what they call progress !

Then I popped up my Amazon order page and and clicked on the big fat button that says "Buy It Again!"
I feel like an addict !!!

If I try the procedure shown in #7 (Configuring OBi Sip Trunk for Asterisk) am I going to mess up my current (plain vanilla ObiTalk generated) configuration?
Anyone can confirm that it works with Obi2182 ?
