I have an old phone system that I installed using one of those old PIAF 1.3 isos, about 2 years ago. I was wondering if running:
update-scripts
update-fixes
update-source

would give me the same build as downloading the newest iso 1.7.5.6.1 (as of today 07/18/2011) and select piaf-gold ???

I am asking this, because when I use update-scripts it tells me that I am using an old version in the following way

Code:
update-scripts Version 1.4.1 released on Date 061009
CentOS release 5.3 (Final) - 32 Bit
**************************************************************
Detailed Log available at /var/log/update-scripts.log!
**************************************************************
* This program will get the latest programs for PBX in a *
* Flash Version 1.2 AND ABOVE!!!! server and update your *
* install. None of these scripts will be run automatically *
* after this update!                                         *
**************************************************************
Getting updated scripts/program package......

Download from www.pbxinaflash.org successful!
That is it! type help-pbx to see what is new
You really need to run update-fixes NOW!
I mean, I trust it, but I am curious!

Also, Piaf-gold would be the the best option for a hardcore production enviro right?

Thanks.

1. No BTW the current version of PIAF is 1.7.5.6.2

2. This is deprecated code and no long maintained. It is only available for people who still use the old stuff. As for not running update-fixes.... up to you. We provide it for a reason so make your own choice

3. Gold works been around a long time but.. not supported by digium (if you care) Silver/bronze has been placed in security update mode only and this stops in april 2012.

Make your own choice there.

Purple (asterisk 1,8) Only one left with active development by Digium. Thus where do you think you should go?

Red (alpha asterisk 1.10) Good luck it may be out in the next release of PIAF. Not for primetime at all.

So there you are hope this helps

Thanks

Tom,

Update-script, update-fixes and update-source are probably the most important features for PIAF. That is exactly what makes this distro what it is.

I understand what you say. And I am asking about this scripts in such an old build because I was afraid that the code was depreciated.

Now, is there anything that can be done to upgrade the boxes for current scripts. Does it need to be from scratch?

Are these boxes getting the latest patches when it comes to a security alert like the ones earlier this year?

1. No

2. No These scripts are deprecated. Between the 1.x - 1.4 series and the 1.7 - 2.0 series There was a base change in the way these programs apply changes. There is no way to run current programs on older boxes for this very reason. installing from scratch is the preferred method. You can try to use freepbx to copy across settings good luck with that. The 2.8 version of freepbx has problems with restoring.

Unless you have 500 extensions or so the easiest path is to:

a. Get new hardware for the new system
b. Install latest build of PIAF (1.7.5.6.2)
c. with the old system running open up freepbx to both systems
d. Copy and paste things

This is how I have been doing it for small installs in the commercial setting. For larger installs I migrate the mysql database.... This has it's own risks however as some database structure have to be hand manipulated. This is more reliable and faster <for me>.

Your mileage may vary. Good luck

Thanks

Damn, so when I see an alarm in the main console that says... "Security Alert: Run update-fixes as soon as possible" it will not patch my system.

Since PIAF is all about security, and we have that RSS feature in the root of the webserver, I think PIAF team should trigger an alarm saying something like: "Plan ahead and if you want to continue patching, you might want to start from scratch with 1.7.x.x.2"

Thanks for the explanation.

We do from 1755 and newer. Unfortunately in PIAF 1.0 to 1.5 the addition of the rss feed actually shows messages meant 175X ONLY.

SO OFFICIALLY

PBX IN A FLASH 1.0 to 1.5 IS DEPRECATED. WORK HAS CEASED ON ANY PROGRAMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RELEASE. YOU CAN STILL DOWNLOAD THESE ASSOCIATED PROGRAMS FOR BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY. THEY ARE NOT MAINTAINED!!!
THE PROGRAMS ARE NOT INTERCHANGEABLE BETWEEN 1.0 - 1.5 AND 1.7.5.X

THE RSS FEED THAT YOU MAY SEE ON PBX IN A FLASH 1.x - 1.5 IS INTENDED ONLY FOR PBX IN A FLASH 1.7.5.X. IN ORDER TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY UPDATES OR FIXES YOU MUST BE RUNNING PBX IN A FLASH 1.7.X AT A MINIMUM.

IN PBX IN A FLASH 1.7.X

1. Update-fixes generally fixes ancillary programs other than asterisk. Generally if a security update for asterisk specifically is required then you need to run update-source. These rules are not hard and fast however.

2. There is NO DIRECT UPGRADE PATH between PBX in a Flash 1.0 to 1.5 and 1.7.X However Users have been able to upgrade between PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.5.x and 1.7.5.6.x. All programs that work on PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.5.x work on 1.7.5.6.x

Beyond this I can't say. Ward and the dev team do this without pay so we have to donate our time where we can. I suppose I could modify the old menus on boxes prior to 1.7 and just delete the RSS feed... but that is just too much work.

Good luck with your project
