orgasmatron-gv.x install failure

This is a new install on a Dell 840. The facts are:

1. Formatted drive as a precaution
2. Behind a dedicated firewall which is behind a cisco router
3. Installed 1.4 with ksalt with no problems
4. Ran update-scripts with no problems
5. Ran update-fixes with no problems
6. Ran passwd-master
7. Made no changes to iptables to close ports
8. Running as dhcp, which is controlled by the firewall. Also tried with a fixed ip address with the same results.
9. Edited resolv.conf for the required nameserver
10. DNS resolves, tested with ping
11. Conformed to Ward's install procedures for orgasmaton-gv per Ward's Orgasmatron V narrative.
12. Ran ./orgasmatron-gv.x, message received from script to proceed with a return
13. At this point the download should have proceeded
14. No response received for pbxinaflash.net server. I assume that is the target.
15. Waited an extended period of time before CTRL C is terminate.

Executed this same procedure several different time over several days.

It would appear that it may not be resolving to the ip address embedded in the script, just a hypothesis, even though dns tests ok.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Doesn't sound like your server can resolve the FQDN. Check the network card. You said the ping resolves but ping is disabled on pbxinaflash.net??? Can you ping mundy.org? Log into your server as root and try to download the following file: wget http://mundy.org/iPhone.jpg. Did it work??

I agree that it would appear that this is a failure to resolve FQDN. I forgot to mention that ping resolves Yahoo.com and other sites. I figured that ping was disabled on pbxinaflash.net.

Per your request I pinged mundy.org with success and downloaded Iphone.jpg successfully. I opened the file to confirm that the image was indeed there, and it was.

What is perplexing is that it correctly resolves [FONT=&quot]wget http://pbxinaflash.net/orgasmatron/orgasmatron-gv.x[/FONT][FONT=&quot] and downloads [/FONT][FONT=&quot]orgasmatron-gv.x[/FONT][FONT=&quot].[/FONT] After ./orgasmatron-bv.x there is no response other than the embedded message in the script.

I'm out of ideas. It's a big file. Just let it sit for an hour after you press Enter to begin and see what happens. All the script is doing is a wget from the same domain to get the payload file.

Ran the script again and checked the machine in a couple of hours and the message was "Script download failed."

There is a windows machine behind this particular firewall which is used with no connectivity problems. Therefore, I do not believe it is a firewall issue. The firewall logs do not indicate anything is amiss.

The connection is a T1.

Barring any other ideas, you might want to consider changing the wget part of the[FONT=&quot]orgasmatron-gv.x[/FONT] script by adding:

1. --append-ouput=/var/log
2. --tries=0 [for unlimited]
3. --server-response [prints your header]
4. --timeout=3600 [default is 900 seconds]

This might help to ascertain the location of the problem.

This script has been downloaded and run thousands of times in the past couple months with only one reported failure... yours. That tells me it isn't a script problem. Either your firewall is blocking the traffic, or there's something seriously wrong in your server or router setup. Some device at your end apparently does not like wget when it is run from a script. You'll have to take it from there.

I would concur with your analysis, however, the script did finally run. Between the last failure, earlier today, and the successfully running of the script later in the day there were no changes in the firewall or the system settings. In addition, there were no reboots. This might raise the issue of whether the wget timeout is set to low.

Glad it finally worked. 900 seconds is 15 minutes. If the download doesn't proceed within this time period, I repeat... something is seriously wrong with your setup.
