I have iPBX2021 on Centos. I have set several outbound routes specific for extension numbers. One route is for 911 and other outbound is set for regular calls (cheaper rate). Avantfax/Hylafax is not happy with this. Is there a way to direct Avantfax through a specific route? Since Avantfax/Hylafax uses IAX i do not know how to make it work.
One way I found is to add a prefix digit for a specific outbound route. Any recommendations for a more elegant solution?

Since the IAX2 extensions used by Advantfax don't have specific extension numbers, you have to create a specific prefix in a specific route like 99 and then send the fax over the trunks in those routes. That is about as "elegant" as it gets. The only thing more elegant would be to install the custom-contexts module but there is a steep learning curve for that. It allows you to restrict routes to specific contexts that you create and place your extension(s) in. Also, depending on what analog terminal adapter you are using, you could have it insert the "99" in the digits sent to the PBX.

You need a provider that actually has a high quality, low loss service like Skyetel or Bulkvs. Both of those work well for fax in my experience.

Depending on your provider's dial plan requirements, you can make the new route's dialplan look something like this where I'm using the prefix code of 99:

Thank you. This is what i did. I took me a while, actually a long while, to figure out why Avantfax was failing to dial out.

I haven't looked at this for a while, but when I installed IncredibleFax on my IncrediblePBX2020, the hylafax/avantfax IAX modems DO have and a callerid of some sort, and they can be specified in the "callerid" field of the dial pattern rules. This has worked for me - although RARELY ever used - as I've done almost no faxing except testing.

Look for "cidnumber" in /etc/iaxmodem/iaxmodem-cfgIAX0 (and IAX1, IAX2,and IAX3)

And if it isn't clear enough, once you put the "cidnumber" in the "callerid' field, you can eliminate all those "99" prefixes you put on your outbound faxes numbers. If you add a line to the dial pattern for each "cidnumber" then anything originating from any of the 4 iaxmodem lines will use that dial pattern - and go out the trunks you have designated for them. (Sorry to suggest you undo all the work you went through to add those "99" prefixes...but this is much easier and needs no maintenance when you use a "new" fax destination)

thank you, it will be one way or another, not both.
