PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.5.4

Just a heads up about our busy day...

First, the bad news. Our pbxinaflash.net site is down. It is hosted by DreamHost, but the domain is registered and DNS resolution is provided by omnis.com. Omnis is having major DNS problems. They just don't know it yet. If you can get to http://nerdvittles.dreamhosters.com/pbxinaflash/ then there is no problem with DreamHost. Unfortunately, that's only half the picture. Omnis provides DNS name resolution for pbxinaflash.net, and that is failing. When we opened a ticket, their response was that they didn't provide DNS support. After some screaming, they reconsidered and now contend that our DreamHost site (link above) is down. It isn't. So we're still arguing, but their network is obviously a mess at the moment. With the quality of support we're seeing, this could very well stretch into days of back and forth.

Now, the good news. Tom has generated new 1.7.5.5.4 ISOs that use pbxinaflash.com for the payload downloads. Our .com site is hosted by WestNIC. And their shit actually works.

As luck would have it, Digium released all new versions of Asterisk 1.4, 1.6.2, and 1.8.1 today so it was a good time for an ISO upgrade and a kernel refresh anyway.

With a little luck, the 32-bit image will be available on SourceForge in about 30 minutes. The 64-bit image should be available about an hour later.

If you need to install PBX in a Flash right now (before Omnis gets their act together), then the new 1.7.5.5.4 ISO is the way to go. It will work without any dependence on pbxinaflash.net. And you'll have all the latest and greatest Asterisk versions to choose from.

Update: Omnis apparently found someone that knew what they were doing. pbxinaflash.net is back among the living. We're shifting gears anyway but at least you can once again use 1.7.5.5.3 for installs.

I was wondering why I had a problem with the installer, earlier today.

The 17554 ISO only have had the kernels and webmin updated. All other updates are handled by the PIAF installer.

I really did not want to spend the time updating all of the other stuff on the ISO as Centos 6.0 is coming and thus PIAF 1.7.6.0 will soon be a reality.

I also modified all of the programs to use the new updated mirror paradigm so pretty much everything has been "touched" the changelog was also updated for everything except the ISO's which have not made it in yet.

That [1.8.1] release may have been made a bit too quick.

A severe issue is open in 1.8.1: 18415


For those using CDR(userfield): Do not upgrade production systems.


Asterisk [1.8.1] is going to crash whenever parked calls are picked up and then hung up again.

I know I should know the answer to this but ... is there a way to update my currently installed PIAF purple to this version without a full wipe & reinstall? do I just need to run update-source??

At the moment you should NOT upgrade to 1.8.1 period. While I have just finished patching the purple load for 1.8.1 and it now compiles just fine the CDR bug is still there which means I doubt we will release 1.8.1 at all. Maybe it will be fixed by 1.8.2

According to Malcolm Davenport of Digium, the outbound calling problem with Google Voice also will be resolved in Asterisk 1.8.2.

in general though, should a new ISO become available, is there some (reasonably) safe method of doing an in-place upgrade? If this is in the docs somewhere please just whack me on the head and I'll go digging for it.
