PiaF 1.3 RC1 is Ready

No new interface for me :(

:cryin:
I installed, oh.... a week or so ago. Have done update-scripts, update-fixes, and update-source. Got the latest version of asterisk, and when I now run update fixes the log shows ver 1.3 detected....
But....
Same old interface on the start up....
:cryin:

Sorry one more thing on the list to do I had forgotten about that. I will release some form of option in the update-scripts shortly that will let you add the menu and do full 1.3 compatibility. The problem is this won't be out till after 1.3 is officially released. Sorry but I don't have the time. It is now on the whiteboard.

Setting Up the New Kennonsoft UI on Older Systems

Tom is up to his eyeballs with 'real work' at the moment so here's a quick and dirty tutorial if you want to switch to the new UI.

Before you load this, make a good backup of all the stand-alone files in /var/www/html as well as /var/www/html/welcome.

Then rm -r /var/www/html/welcome and also delete the following files:

rm /var/www/html/config.php
rm /var/www/html/index.html
rm /var/www/html/index.php
rm /var/www/html/login.php
rm /var/www/html/robots.txt

To install the new stuff:

cd /var/www/html
wget http://pbxinaflash.net/scripts/ui3.tgz
tar zxvf ui3.tgz
rm ui3.tgz

Branding is supported with separate everything for user and admin menus: /var/www/html/_branding.htm

Applications are set up in /var/www/html/welcome/.htindex.cfg. There's an example of just about any setup you'd like. To use your own xTide, add a link like this: http://$host:88/. Icons are available for munin, xtide and much more in /var/www/html/welcome.

Security suggestion: We think your system is much safer if you DISABLE Internet access through your firewall to port 80 on your PBX in a Flash machine. Do something like the following instead. It's absolutely secure and safe!!

Using Terminal (on a Mac) or Putty (on a Windows PC), issue a command like this: ssh -L 8180:localhost:80 [email protected]. Leave the app running and then connect with a browser: http://localhost:8180/

Close the SSH tunnel when you finish using your browser. Special, special thanks to Kennonsoft for this terrific new UI! :biggrin5:

how long will it be in beta, rough guess.
I need to build a system for a client, should I just stay with 1.2?

As long as your hardware is supported in 1.2, it's rock solid and can be upgraded to 1.3 through update-source.

Hi Tim

I am basically done although I would like more feedback so far no problems. We are just waiting to see if any of the hardware manufacturers wish to climb on board and add anything to the new PreInstall menu which loads out of the ISO. I had hopes that some of the Manufacturers would get on board but their response has been non existant.

Currently the PreInstall menu has the 8101 driver which must be installed on MB based on the realtek 8101 NIC chipset. It also has netconfig which some people have asked for if the network they are installing to does not have DHCP running.

I have been working on a netconfig replacement but it is nowhere near complete and needs further testing. I will be releasing it as a separate download later on.

The preinstall menu can be accessed from the cli if you exit from the PIAFDL program that runs after the first reboot. just type piafxtras-menu at the cli and away you go.

when you reboot the PIAFDL program runs and allows you to download and install PIAF. I am going to upload the final build to ward this evening.... I have just finished updating both the 32/64 bit versions so no 200 mb downloads. You may still have to download a few updates as Centos releases them every flipping day!

PM or email me if you need more info for your build. The upgrade from 1.2 to 1.3 official patch that ward mentioned is a few weeks off however!

Tom

Are you actually using an everex in a commercial install? Just asking I know a few are using it and was wondering about it. The everex is supported by centos just fine so far. Aside from my atom that with all of it's faults is a good machine especially with a 4gb ssd! I have a couple of Geode based MB's that I am looking at for low power embedded applications of asterisk. Plus I have a new C7 based MB on order etc etc... All have their place in the PIAF universe.

I am hoping that our ability to add stuff to a preinstall menu along with the ability to spin up a new ISO will allow us to provide direct support for the more exotic MB's. This is not for everbody I have already had some queries regarding running an enterprise PBX off of an embedded geode board..... poor guy wanting to run 200 sip trunks off of a tiny geode....

Tom

I have used the everex on my last 3 small installs (under 10 phones) I have had no issues at all.

Non-Issues

Tom,
I found that the CDRom at reboot did not eject for removal - small non-issue. Tried it on two P4's. I just removed it manually.
I did like the ability to set the network info before the asterisk installation.
Thanks so much!
TomS

Yes I know. I get 50% who want the cd ejected and 50% who don't so for this release the coin toss went to the other side.

Thought you might like the ability to set things. Too bad the hardware manufacturers did not show interest in including their drivers on the latest ISO! I guess we are too small for them to take notice. (all except Openvox Thanks to them)

Openvox sent me some of their tdm400 replacement cards in the mini pci form factor and boy are they slick. Works like a charm. Also been playing with their mini pci ISDN stuff and almost have that working. Just plugging away at mISDN at the moment in my spare 7.37 minutes I have in the day.
