I spun up the piaf-green for esxi template released recently. No problems, came right up. Configured a few extensions for testing and the Google Voice trunk. Everything seems to work great except that once in awhile, when I listen to voicemail, I get a very robotic sounding voice and very slow. Sounds like a 33 rpm record played at 78 rpm. (sorry if I dated myself with that analogy!)

This system will have 15 sip trunks and 60 phones when it goes live. Best to abandon and go with a dedicated server? I hate to spend $$ if I don't have to. This client already has a three server (Dell PowerEdge R620, dual 6-core cpu, 96Gb ram) rack connected to a Dell MD3200 SAN. Seems a waste to not use it.

is the PIAF Disk on the SAN? Is the PIAF VM sharing it's NIC with high IO VMs?

Give it 4GB RAM it's own NIC and consider putting the VM on some type of DAS. My PIAF is on Hyper-V with 2GB RAM it's own NIC and local storage. Everything sounds fine.

Why the client has a SAN is another story. IMO local/DAS provided the best IO performance.

Yes, the piaf disk is on the san. Non of the PowerEdge servers have hard drives in them. They boot from 2Gb SD cards. I can add a physical drive, give it it's own nic, etc. but that defeats the whole point of the VMware setup. With vMotion it will keep things going in case of a failure. I might as well just stick a separate server in the rack and be done with it.

From what I read robotic sounding recordings are related to timing issues and/or packet loss. Even though you're all SIP Check your dahdi_test results.

What RAID Level? If Jumbo Frames are enabled try turning them off. Are the NICs/Disks overloaded?

For reference I'm running piaf green on Server 2012 as a Hyper-V guest. When I first was testing I had piaf on the regular network. When testing calls The phone the IP phone didn't ring, and things didn't sound right. I then put the PIAF on it's own network and things worked much better.
