just now I realized that my PIAF box appeared to be functioning alright but had lost all trunk registrations and none of the extensions seemed to work. Except the asterlsk -r showed that one of my remote IAX2 extension was registering at its regular frequency. I have restarted the machine and now it is working!! amportal restart did not fix this issue.

any clues as to what might have happened?

any way to avoid it?

and if now, any way to monitor the occurrence of this remotely? so as to be alerted.

Thiis is known to occur when asterisk loses it's registration to SIP trunks, e.g. when the internet is down or there is a DNS failure.

hmm. then is there a way to monitor this (may be on the same server) and initiate a fix to the problem. as of now the only fix i know is to shutdown -r now.

Hi

A hunt round these forums will show a script that will email you when a SIP trunk is down.

An asterisk -rx "restart now" or "module reload" should achieve the same thing.

There are a few solutions around, but they are all a bit of a bodge, I avoid the issue by using IAX trunks only.

The underlying cause may be approached as well to see why the system went offline - was it internet failure or DNS failure.
