I have tried both the x86 and 64x installs of PIAF-Red and they end up with an error stating the Asterisk did not install and to check the logfile. It's a rather long log and I didn't see anything that jumped out as a failure or error. Out of curiosity, I hit enter and let it go forward with the install to see what happens. It then comes up with "Download of fopfix29.tgz failed." And my internet is definitely not down.
Anyone know what may be happening?:banghead:

That is an error in update-fixes we are still trying to trace down as it does not happen all the time.

You are not posting enough info

1. Real or virtualized install?
2. Did the install complete at all?
3. What EXACTLY was the wording of the error message?
4. If the install did complete what is the COMPLETE output of the status command. Please don't edit it as we really need to see the whole screen. The only exception is of course if you have your piaf system outwards facing directly on an external IP address. Then edit out your local IP address.

If you can't get a screen capture then run statustofile and upload the logfile to the forum.

For the moment both 32/64 of red seem to be working in the PIAF lab on virtualized installs. Your problem could be related to DNS issues as when asterisk is compiling it DOES download all sorts of things from Digium. This is something that the Digium guys put in and not us.

Best regards

Tom

Installing on virtual machine. I have tried both on ProxMox and VMWare. Both have same results. Seems to be happening after Asterisk is compiled.
Yes, the installation will complete if I press enter to let it continue. But no Asterisk.

Error Message:
<<>> ERROR Asterisk red seems to have failed to compile!
This install will continue but you may have to hand
compile Asterisk! Please check the /var/log/install-red.log
Press ENTER to continue!

Then it continues and gives me:

update-fixes - 2.0.1 released on 082011
Download of fopfix29.tgz FAILED - WRITE THIS DOWN
***...***
* Download unsuccessful! We suspect your internet is down,*
*it not not correctly set up, or you don't have access to *
* a working domain name server (DNS). It is highly unlikely*
*all of the PIAF mirrors are down at the same time. *
*We will attempt to run some diagnostics, display them, *
* and then exit to the console so you can fix the problem.*
* Press ENTER to continue. *
***...***

I attached a PDF of screenshots of everything. Maybe it's a Digium problem?

Thanks!

I have the same Asterisk failure. Tried installing twice on a dedicated ATOM based server.

STARTING ASTERISK
/var/lib/asterisk/bin/freepbx_engine: line 152: /usr/sbin/safe_asterisk: no such file or directory
safe_asterisk: no process killed
mpg123: no process killed

Try again on Monday. Sometimes some servers (of others :wink5: ) die over the weekend. We can't fix it, but they will... on Monday morning Central Time.

But that means I will no longer have a distraction and be forced to clean and do laundry! Totally unacceptable!

I've had the same errors all day
purple or red from 1.7.5.6.3 iso
just completed purple from 1.7.5.6.2 with same errors
guess I'll wait till Monday

I have the same problem as Marv has in post #3 and get the same messages. Except I am trying to install Purple. I had the problem on Friday and Saturday. Does waiting until Monday apply to my case also?

Thanks,

To add, I experienced the same install issue with both the Purple and Red installs on Saturday afternoon. Using real hardware for a change, too.

Anyway, it was a good excuse to get out of the house, hang out with friends, and stay out 'til all hours of the morning. ;)

Can someone PM me who is willing to email me a copy of the install log please so I can have a look.

Also just doing a new installs of red/purple on prox to see if these problems are still cropping up.

Best regards

Tom

Thanks guys I have a few samples to compare. We are busy looking at things so please be patient.

OK Folks it looks like there is an error with the ilbc module which is downloaded during compile time. We will have to modify the options and disable this until it has been fixed upstream @ global ip solutions. The iLBC codec is hosted by global ip solutions and thus independent of Digium. Something has been revised by Global IP Solutions which makes it not play well with either Asterisk 1.8.x or Asterisk 10.0.0.b

Tom

Interesting... Looks like Global IP Solutions has been acquired by Google in January 2011. iLBC is now part of something called WebRTC.

Global IP Solutions, the creator of iLBC, was acquired by Google in January 2011. Google continues to support the iLBC effort and is offering it as part of it's WebRTC open source effort. iLBC is now available under the same license as the WebRTC project. On this page, you will find material taken from the old ilbcfreeware.org page.

Interestingly enough the source does still download but it has been changed somewhat so asterisk is going to have to be patched for red/purple I am afraid. Still looking at the differences in the source. In the meantime we are modding stuff and removing this until it either asterisk or iLbc has been fixed. Damn always something.

Tom

We have posted some updates so you should be able to install both red/purple successfully now. BTW the fopfix problem only occurs when asterisk did not successfully compile.

Please give it a test and let us know.

Simply do a fresh install of purple or red and it should complete just fine.

Regards

Tom

Sorry Tom, I have already wiped my HDD. Next time I will wait before I clean the HDD.

I am installing on a computer not virtual.

No worries I think we got it fixed. These problems occur sometimes when there are changes that aren't passed on to us. It is sometimes helpful to save the install-color.log file if you are experiencing "odd" problems as it does help us to track things down. Course the log file is about 1.3 mb and people eyes tend to glaze over when they try to read it.

You should be good to go on your next install. Seems to work in our labs just fine also.

I completed RED install without any difficulties. Thanks Tom for all your efforts.
