PIAF2: Incredfax2 Outbound Problem

Installed PIAF2, Purple to Virtualbox. It's up and working making calls fine.

installed incredfax2. i can receive faxes fine, but when attempting to send a fax, it does nothing - the fax shows up in the outbox, but nothing happens (i masked the phone numbers that appeared under the Company heading):

Connecting with the hylafax client it also shows the outbound fax as waiting.

There's no asterisk log activity because no call was made.

I'm not sure where else to look... can someone suggest a next step or something to look at?

It seems i've fixed it, but am not entirely sure how/why

the things i did were:
-reboot
-entered a name in Avantfax settings (overwriting the default Avantfax Admin)
-changed the from email address in the Avantfax settings to something different than the email address to which faxes get delivered
