Policy on Signatures?

Just wondering what people's thoughts are on signatures.

I like the fact that images are not allowed in signatures, but what provoked me to write this post was a signature with several blatantly commercial non-asterisk related links. Comments?

My personal take is that people shouldn't exploit the popularity of this forum/Nerd Vittles for their own commercial benefit. I don't have a problem with someone linking to their asterisk consulting service. I do however take issue with people exploiting this site for a better PageRank or whatever other motives they may have.

I think that a policy should be set on this issue. Perhaps the mods would like to chime in.

I'm new on here and haven't setup a signature yet, I would have thought a simple link to whatever your website is would be fine (commercial or not).

As to having an advert selling something is totally different, I don't think that is appropriate on a forum like this.

Just my thought....
