TIPS Polycom - disable tone for missed call/ voice mail

How do I disable missed call / message waiting tone that the Polycom 335 plays?

OK, attempt this:

I had been using Polycoms (601, 501, 301) before I got my Grandstreams about 6 months ago (GXP2140 (2) and GXP1405 (4) and 1 GXP2200EXT (sidecar)

Anyways I still have my tftpboot on my local machines with the configs and looked through each phone for a clue -- Taint there (you can't do it for one phone only) so I went and looked at the sip_318.cfg (the last working version for the 601, 501, 301 phones -- they want you to buy their new stuff for more $$, which is why the switch to GS)

in the SIP_318.cfg I found this:

<sound_effects se.stutterOnVoiceMail="0" se.appLocalEnabled="1" >

So if you change the stutterOnVoicemail="1" to a "0" like I did, that should take care of your question, but beware this is GLOBAL to all your Polycoms thatuse the SIP_318.cfg information

Newer firmware and Server/SIP config files may allow for individuals to set the stutter, but I did not see it. You could try the line above in just one phone. It could take it and work, it could take it and ignore it as invalid per phone, or it could send your phone into an endless reboot loop as an invalid cfg file.

I provide what I have but make no guarantees it will work per phone but in the sip_318.cfg it will work globally for all.

p.s. as far as I know there is no tone for missed calls. did you use this to mean a missed call that left a voicemail?

"yes", voice mail waiting....my bad.

Setting for all phones, 3, would be fine.

I don't see a SIP_318.cfg in FreePBX config edit and the only direct 'interaction' I've had with the phones is through the http interface to point to server/extension etc.

Is there another file into which I could place those settings.

It is notable that up until this week, I'd been using an "Incredible" install from December 2010. I am using Ward's ubuntu production install. The Polycom did not behave this way with the earlier install.

Do you have a program to FTP things to your box or are you using the EPM in FreePBX? I hand coded the cfg files in the /tftpboot directory on my box. also sip_318 is the last version I know of that split the server_318.cfg and sip_318.cfg into two files. What does the phone show for its sip/firmware vesions? That will give a clue as to what file you need to look for.

From a quick Google search (plus I kew what I was looking for) the SPIP335 can take the newes firmware which by the FWMatrix is 4.1.1 so off the top of my head the file to lookfor maybe in /tftpboot (if you load your phones this way) is server_411.cfg

Since I no longer use polycoms due to the lack of ability to do BLFs properly since the FW I need was not compatible with my series, I have not kept up with the changes so I am as in the dark as you but if you can find the server file as I mentioned a quick [ctrl+F] search for stutter should fine the line you need to change.

A program I am using called WinSCP is great for browsing files, but in recent upgrades seems to be a bug where Iafter I save my edits the program can't save it and I go in as root on PuTTy via nano to make my changes. Hoping in a new update this gets fixed as I am happy with WinSCP (free)
