I should predicate this question by saying that the following phones work perfectly inside my firewall and stay registered: X-Lite, SIP-Droid, Telematrix 3300IP.

At the moment I am only trying to run one Polycom IP301 inside my firewall (testing).

It powers up and registers fine and can make and receive perfect calls. After about half an hour, the phone continues to show itself as being registered (on the phone) but the extensions entry in the FOP becomes partially grayed-out and incoming calls are directed to voice-mail. The phone continues to dial out perfectly, and after a call, will again receive calls for awhile.
Code:
[2011-01-16 18:48:56] NOTICE[3248] chan_sip.c: Peer '1001' is now Reachable. (72ms / 2000ms)
[2011-01-16 19:13:01] NOTICE[3248] chan_sip.c: Peer '1001' is now UNREACHABLE! Last qualify: 66

This might be a subjective observation, but it seems that the presence of voice-mail for the extension will cause the phone to become fully-registered again.

SIP Config:

Server = mypbx.example.com
Port = 5060
Transport = Naptr
Register = Yes

Solved:

I eventually solved this one myself. Apparently, Polycom does not play well when it is the device behind the firewall and the PBX is outside the firewall (as in a branch office or WFH employee).
It seems that it registers fine and continues to make outgoing calls, but the "hole" in the firewall it creates for inbound 5060 closes after a default period of time.

On Polycom, the following settings in the MAC-phone.cfg (or in the web-UI) will keep the phone registered for both incoming and outgoing:

Code:
reg.1.server.1.retryTimeOut="60" reg.1.server.1.register="1" reg.1.server.1.expires="60" reg.1.server.1.port="5060"

i have timeout 360 here on a wimax 4g connection and polycom 331 works fine for incoming calls, im natted at both ends.
