If I do not have an outgoing route defined will that ensure no outgoing calls including 911 calls?

Had some anonymous joker place a 911 call to my cloud based PBX that I only use for inbound business calls at 3:30am and the 911 info was to my house. Had a cop pounding on my door asking if I placed a 911 call.

Vitelity had instructions to not place outbound calls but that does not apply to 911. So looking for the best way to ensure NO outgoing calls an be placed ever. I return customers calls using my cell phone or via email.

Thanks!

So the question is how did they get access to your system to make this call ? Do you not have a Traveling Man or Firewall White list in place ?

There was a default outgoing route in my elastix 4 pbx. I have since removed it and no longer have one. I thought I was covered by my voip vendor not allowing outgoing calls, but found out that rule did NOT apply to 911 calls.

Understand, but what will stop the hacker from putting it back in if the box is wide open ?

That's why you need a properly configured firewall. Otherwise, folks will be making calls on your nickel.

I think @wardmundy should offer a solution like this for iptables. I've been using it for over a week and all is well. I have to use this for large deployments so that it "just works".
