What is the recommended process for a new install now a days? I have seen a few posts and the answers vary. I have messed with piaf a bit on and off the past two years and now want to put into production a box for a project.
So I guess i have several options. I typically like to install an OS and get the updated OS patched and stuff before I install apps on it.
Not sure out the vesion to use? I can use piaf 1.4 install. but it does not work for some newer boxes and some nic cards, etc. There is 1.5 and 1.6 and they are listed as beta. Hmm? Really just centos 5.3/5.4 with piaf load. For me I need centos 5.4 for my computer and nic.
So should I....
option 1. Install piaf 1.6 and before the piaf load, stop it and do a yum update. Update kernel and apps. Reboot and then let it do the piaf install. do the normal update-scripts and fix it. Do I do an update source after? Will that tweak and/or update/break Asterisk? Is this way a good idea? Or bad one?
option 2. Do a normal install of piaf 1.6 and get it installed. then do the normal update-scripts and fix. Then do an update-source? Good? Bad?
I also plan on using a Sangoma B600 card for FXO ports and wondering if it matters if I use Zaptel or Dahdi?
Any help is appreciated. Thx, T.
