READ cmd is cutting off after 2 digits even though set to 10

In the dialplan, I have a prompt that is supposed to wait for a telephone number:
exten => s,n,Read(FAXNUM,beep,10)

However, even though it is supposed to wait for ten digits, it usually cuts off after typing on 2 or three numbers.


This is asterisk 1.8

Sounds like a DTMF problem.
