Hi Tim,
I have had good luck with the 3Ware 8006-2LP RAID controller. It's true hardware RAID, 2 channel SATA, costs about $125-130. All the CentOS distros back to 4.x have "just worked" with it, no need to install extra drivers. I don't have a PIAF system running it yet, but I do have a couple older Tr**boxes running it just fine. Note that the specs say it's a 64 bit PCI, but it will back down to 32 bit when plugged into a 32 bit slot. Also, there is software with it that will email you if a drive fails etc. Pretty cool
