We have an office in Pakistan and an UK office. As the Pakistan government blocks SIP I set up all the extensions over there to use a different port. I can now place a call between locations but although the call connects there is no audio, just an echo of your own voice.
Any clues...?
Thanks in advance.

Hi

Use IAX or a VPN

A simple port change may not do it depending on the complexity of their scanning software.

jroper, thanks for the response. Can I run SIP and IAX side by side? I've never configured IAX.

Yes, and you will find it easier than SIP to work with.

Do you have a PBX in both locations? If so then you can run an IAX trunk between the two. Here's a howto trunk IAX2 page Unless it's involved in some terrorist plot then it is extremely difficult to do...

Blanchae, we only have the one PBX. I'm hoping we can run a few IAX extensions over there and SIP over here.

Shouldn't be a problem as long as your VoIP phones support IAX

Thanks to both jroper and blanchae. Used an IAX softphone to test in Pakistan and it works fine.
