Siriously: It's Wolfram Alpha for Asterisk

We've added a demo line so you can try this out for yourself. Just call 1-405-FOR-WOLF. Enjoy!

Cool! Works great. I did not have Cepstral installed on the test box I put it on... If I install Cepstral, do I have to do anything to make it use the voice, or does it automatically use swift if available?

From the article...

You'll notice that there are commented lines 3, 6, 16, and 17 to support Cepstral [at the top of extensions_custom.conf]. If you use this commercial TTS app which now can be installed in PIAF2 with install-cepstral, then you can comment out the Flite entries and uncomment the Swift (Cepstral) entries in the dialplan code.

Well, don't need PIAF 2.0

In my haste to try this out, I forgot which one of my PBX's I was SSH'd into...

In my haste, I just ran the install script in your blog post.

Guess what? It works fine with Flite.

However, trying to get Cepstral working.

This purple version does not have install-cepstral installed.
When I changed per your instructions, the script cannot find Swift, even though installed.

Is there a stand-alone install-cepstral script I can use on Asterisk 1.8?

Demo off-line?

Hmmm....

The demo seems to be off-line.

When I call in, I get either a brief initial ring followed by a busy signal, or a Google-Voice-subscriber-not-available message... I've tried calling from VoIP lines and a T-Mobile cell....

I'd like to give the service a try- it sounds intriguing!

Yeah. We had a few "special visitors" last evening so we had to shut it down temporarily. It's back up now, but you're limited to one call per phone number. Sorry.

Sort of like when you are arrested.

I tried your test number and am kicking myself for not recording the response to my question. Apparently a woodchick can chuck 361 cubic centimeters per day.
LoL! I know what your question was, so I just tried it. Now that's funny!

OK. Found your number and deleted it from the BlackList. You're good for another round. Great question, pundit! Added it to the article. :svengo:

Any idea ?

Thanks in advance.

You must not be using PIAF2. This is only compatible with PIAF2 at the moment without installing other dependencies.

uh oh!

what other dependencies are needed to make this work with, say, Trixbox? And how does one remove the install if one finds out it doesnt work? :D

Thanks!

Good luck with that.... Trixbox is so far behind the technology curve that you will have all sorts of "FUN" trying to make it work. As for removing sometimes reversing the steps of the install works.....

I would suggest you upgrade to a more modern disto (we like ours) One that at least supports Asterisk 1.8 or above. Asterisk 1.8/10 are the only versions that are getting active development from Digium. If you upgrade to a current version of asterisk you might have a better experience making this software work.

best regards

Tom

Coming tomorrow...

Wolfram Alpha Pro democratizes data analysis: an in-depth look at the $4.99 a month service

On Wednesday, February 8th, Wolfram Alpha will be adding a new, "Pro" option to its already existing services. Priced at a very reasonable $4.99 a month ($2.99 for students), the new services includes the ability to use images, files, and even your own data as inputs instead of simple text entry. The "reports" what Wolfram Alpha kicks out as a result of these (or any) query are also beefed up for Pro users, some will actually become interactive charts and all of them can be more easily exported in a variety of formats...
