Skype Channel Driver from Digium!

any further word I signed up for the beta but got a e-mail saying it postponed or something

Letter from Digium

Here's the email we received on November 14 about Skype:

Thanks again for your application to the Skype For Asterisk beta program. Since
the announcement at AstriCon we've had nearly two thousand applications. We're
very excited about Skype For Asterisk (SFA) and can't wait to see the kinds of
Asterisk + Skype solutions you cook up.

You might have noticed that we've not yet sent out anything to test. When we
did the demo at AstriCon we were optimistic that our proof of concept code could
quickly be enhanced into a production-ready product. Unfortunately we uncovered
a number of issues that have taken a bit longer to fix than we expected. Digium
and Skype are committed to releasing a stable, scalable and feature-rich product
that can be used in a wide variety of scenarios, so while we regret the delay
we're glad we found the bugs first.

The good news is that our engineering departments have had the opportunity to
work together and to test the product thoroughly. We're planning on releasing
the initial beta to a very small group in the next few weeks. If all goes well
we will quickly expand the program. We really appreciate your continued
patience. Keep an eye on your email for additional updates.

Cheers,

-S

Integrating Skype to PiaF will be a cool project once it is released.

Has anyone tried the product from SiSky? http://www.yeastar.com/Products/SiSkyEE.asp

$55 per Skype Trunk

Just glanced through the manual for this product. Apparently, there is a Windows component required for this product. For most home installs, I guess this wouldn't be a problem, but for a small business, it doesn't make sense to have a PC running this Skype app in the background somewhere on the network, IMO.

it would be sweet
you would think
they would want a large
group of folks like us to help with the beta test

Any updates on this? I got a develop that uses Skype only and I like my phone. Would like to be able to have a Skype channel on the PIAF.

I also got the same letter as Ward....

But ! Because of my involvement in many other projects... I am able to piggy back test the software.

My initial impression is that it is very cool indeed. I bought a Skype In DID and can receive calls from Skype clients and PTSN. I also setup multiple Skype accounts and registered them on the system, each pointing to something different...
i.e. An extension, IVR and a queue that plays the local Fire/Police scanner as MOH...

I still haven't got outbound working and am kinda working in the dark as getting project specific dev priveledges seems harder to get then the SFA beta program. :(

I guess I'm a little confused about Digium's ultimate plan for Skype. If it's just going to mean they get a revenue stream for the Skype calls going out of Asterisk systems, then good for them. If they plan to sell the module, that's something quite different. You can already buy SIP phones that also support Skype so I guess the question then becomes... HOW MUCH. :confused5:
