Ward, Et. Al. -- Thanks for the fantastic work!

I installed without any problems and it works great!!!

Now I'm following the install instructions for skype but after I xinit and try to start skype, I get the following error:
"./skype: /usr/lib/libstc++.so.6: version 'GLIBXXX_3.4.9' not found (required by ./skype)"

Has anyone else run into this problem? How should I proceed?

Thanks,
Don

Can Anyone Offer Up Some Suggestions?

I've been looking around quite extensively most of the day and tried a few things but haven't come up with any solutions yet.

Has ANYONE gotten skype working with the 1.8.4 PIAF purple payload? There must be a solution...:banghead:

Thanks,
Don

Here are some things to try until I have a chance to take a look at it. Sounds like an outdated RPM...

http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/earth/thread?tid=0ab0ed80ed61cbfc&hl=en

But read this first:

https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?viewmode=flat&topic_id=20897&forum=38

This looks like the approach with the most promise (if you know what you're doing)...

https://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=22295

Or perhaps this one which is a bit more straight-forward...

P.S. If you get this working, please post the step-by-step and save us all some time.

Ward -- THANKS!!

I had tried installing the library from rpm but ran into lots of dependency issues so decided to quit and not break the working system.

Per your suggestion, here is how I got it to work.

1. Downloaded the rpm from (http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/sta...fedora_10/com/libstdc++-4.3.2-7.i386.rpm.html)

2. Extracted the library and link to a temporary directory (rpm2cpio libstdc++-4.3.2-7.i386.rpm | cpio -idv)

3. Follow the skype install instructions from http://nerdvittles.com/?p=680

4. BEFORE starting xinit on the server, go into the /usr/lib directory and remove the link (rm libstdc++.so.6).

5. Copy the extracted library (libstdc++.so.6.0.10) to /usr/lib on the server and make the soft link (ln -s libstdc++.so.6.0.10 libstdc++.so.6)

6. Now start xinit, etc., the skype seems to be happy (so far).

Thanks!
Don

OOPS! -- I spoke too soon.

I posted the prior response when I learned that I could "start" skype... However, when I try to enter credentials into the appropriate fields, there is no text displayed, and it appears to freeze...

Not sure how to proceed next.

Thanks,
Don

OK -- Finally got it working... I found the previous version of skype mentioned in the instructions from (http://download.skype.com/linux/skype_static-2.1.0.81.tar.bz2).

I then removed the newer directory from my pbx server, copied the directory for the 2.01.81 static in its place and the install went perfectly and now skype is working!!! through my server.

Thanks Ward!! Really Cool!!

Don
