I have a new by-the-book Incredible PBX set up (the CentOS 5.5 version) on an Acer Revo single core and I've also set up X-Lite on a fast Windows 7 machine on the same local network/router and tied in to the IPBX with Google Voice and SIPGate. The DSL connection is .75 Mbps with 50ms ping time.
When I experiment dialing a POTS line from X-Lite I get these surprisingly long times for a call to go through. I tried it four times as you can see. Times are cumulative:
9,4,5,5 Seconds until I hear "Please wait while I connect your call".
21,15,16,16 Seconds before I hear an electronic "music" tone.
32,26,25,26 Seconds before I hear ringing on the softphone (PC) speakers.
38,32,31,34 Seconds until the POTS line starts ringing.
When I call, this time from my mobile, to X-Lite I get the following times:
8,8,7,7 seconds until I hear ringing in ear piece of cell phone
25,21,21,26 seconds until greeting, "Thank your for calling. Please hold a moment while we locate someone to take your call"
35,32,36,35 seconds until soft phone rings.
Are these times typical? I realize that a production environment would not be using Google Voice, but I'm not clear on how much of the delay is due to GV vs other links in the chain. Are the phrases, "Please wait while I connect your call", "Thank you for calling . . .", the "music tones" and the ringing sound all being generated by IPBX? I'm trying to understand exactly what does what and how the various pieces relate.
Thanks.
