In Honor of Asterisk Deprecation Day, we are pleased to introduce PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.6 featuring CentOS 5.6, FreePBX 2.8, and the final versions of Asterisk 1.4, 1.6.2 and 1.8

Both 32-bit and 64-bit ISO downloads are now available on SourceForge. Enjoy!

is it mandatory to do a backup/wipe/clean install to get up to centos56 or is there some kind of suggested upgrade path? i perused the 1.7.5.6 beta/RC threads but didn't see anything sorry if i missed it

Well there is no upgrade path from beta/rc however there is no functional difference between beta/rc/final

Thus, as always, if you installed from the beta/rc and it is working just leave it alone. The only difference between beta/rc/full is the versions that are on the actual ISO. the full release was updated to whatever is current from the CentOS repo as of 2300 EDT yesterday. Also the date in the initial boot up screen was changed to reflect yesterday.

We try not to change the ISO at all as it only has 2 PIAF created programs on it. The real magic is in the payload files which are never part of the ISO's These files contain the latest and greatest asterisk improvements for NEW installs.

I am still working on update-source to make it CentOS5.6ized not done yet. If Centos would stop putting out kernels that need to be massaged to run all of our stuff it would make things go faster.

No I never installed any of the betas/RC. Just running an old 1.7.5.5 install that's about 8 months old now. I don't mind starting fresh just not sure I know what the recommended procedure is.

The simple solution is to drop into the cli and type yum update. The kernel update is turned off by default in NORMAL piaf installs so unless you mucked with the files in yum.repos.d you should be safe. This should keep out the 5.6 kernels until update-source has been altered this is the simplest way.

That being said if you have a stable system why would you want to upgrade? Centos 5.6 has nothing earth shattering. Except for better hardware support for new installs (still not too sure about that)

While I used to understand the need to upgrade every 6 seconds; in a stable pbx system this should be measured in years between upgrades. (depending on security fixes)

Of course your mileage may vary.....

That being said you want to scrub and reinstall go for it.... You just may have to do this when we release PIAF 1760..... Real Soon Now. Which has centos 6.0 as a base. Hopfully this one may have php 5.3.x on it and a few other things that are actually backwards compatible with all of the programs in the PIAF collective <very borg like>

Tom

PIAF 1.7.5.6 is evolutionary, not revolutionary. What CentOS 5.6 basically buys you is support for newer NICs and motherboards. If you have a functioning CentOS 5.5-based system, there is little reason to either upgrade or rip and replace.

Ok -- well the only thing interesting to me would be the addition of the timerfd timing source. Does this new kernel contain it? I have (possibly) been having problems with timers so I'v been waiting months for the chance to test timerfd.

Ward -
I assume that if I'm redoing a system anyway, there's no reason not to use the newer version, right? Are there any advantages of the 1.7.5.5.x versions?
Thanks!

Only advantage to the older release is we already have customized versions for USB flash drives and VMs. If you don't need those, then PIAF 1.7.5.6 is the way to go.

timerfd

ok just installed in a VM...

res_timing_timerfd still not available sadly... I think the kernel support is there now but I think there is a glibc update required IIRC. so I guess this gets shelved until CentOS 6.

New Asterisk security releases now are included in the PIAF-1756 payload:

Silver - Asterisk 1.4.40.1

Bronze - Asterisk 1.6.2.17.3

Purple - Asterisk 1.8.3.3

asterisk failing to compile on new install tonight,

I have two new servers on the bench and both are failing to compile asterisk error logs are :
The existing menuselect.makeopts file did not specify
that 'cdr_sqlite3_custom' should not be included. However, either some dependencies for this module were not found or a
conflict exists. referencing cdr_sqlite3_custom and failed dependencies in the make.

I tried with the new pbxinaflash-x86_64-17561.iso and then the 1.7.5.5.1-64 bit iso and see the same results.

Is it just because it is a Friday or anyone else seeing it?

new version of asterisk has some oddities which have taken a while to debug. Just testing out final patch hopefully

New Release

New payload releases for PBX in a Flash 1.7.5.6 are now available with your choice of:

Gold - Asterisk 1.4.21.2 with FreePBX 2.8

Silver - Asterisk 1.4.41 with FreePBX 2.8

Bronze - Asterisk 1.6.2.18 with FreePBX 2.8

Purple - Asterisk 1.8.3.3 with FreePBX 2.8

As an added security measure, all installs and any running of update-fixes now forces either a randomized or user-selected password for FreePBX that differs from "the usual suspects."

All download mirrors now are current.

CentOS 5.6 requires us to use FreePBX 2.8 for Non-Purple Colors?
